What Is a Good Credit Score.

That number is actually kind of tricky.  The credit score is ranked on a chart between 300 and 850.  Very few people have credit scores in the 800s due to factors that most people can't control.  On the other end of the spectrum, very few people have credit scores below 500.  So the functional range for a score is 500 to 800.

Scores in the high 700s are considered excellent. But any score over 720 will likely qualify you for the best interest rates and the premium credit offers including platinum credit cards.
The median credit score in the United States is 723. That means 50 percent have higher scores and 50 percent have lower.
If your credit score is lower than the median, you will start having trouble accessing credit at good rates. The difference between a 700 and a 750 can mean $200 to $300 extra in monthly payments on a $200,000 loan.
A score of 620 is generally seen as the cut off point for a "high risk" borrower. In this case, if you are trying to buy a home, you will likely only qualify for a subprime mortgage. Because of the banking crisis, subprime mortgages have dried up. So people in this category may not qualify for a home at any interest rate.

    Strategies For Debt Free Living

There is something wonderful about having no bills other than the ones you accrued that month.

Distinguish between what you need and what you want.  You need food, shelter, clothing, and depending on where you live, transportation.  You want a video game system, a high end stove, etc.  Even within the "needs category" there are differentiations between products.  For instance, you need food, but there is a difference between been soup with a little bit of ham for flavoring and a filet mignon.  Figure out what the minimum you need to live is and put all other items in the want category.  Then, after you have paid for all of your necessities, you can purchase the things you want most.
Pay off your debts quickly.  When the objective is to live debt free, you have to get out of debt.  So, that means accelerating your debt repayment schedule.  If you are supposed to pay $150 a month on your credit card, cut into your wants budget and pay $250.  Even paying an extra $100 a month on your house payment can shave years off the amount of time you need to pay.
Learn strategies to live frugally.  Make it a game.  If you are used to spending $150 on family groceries, budget $125.  You'll learn to buy generic, buy cheaper cuts of meat, and learn to do without expensive pre-packaged food.  You will also find that you are looking for creative ways to prepare food which could lead to tasty new recipes gracing your menu.  Learning to live frugally can actually bring a lot of fun into your life.  That's one of the advantages of learning how to live debt free
Put away money for emergencies.  One of the reasons that people get into debt is because of an emergency.  For instance, an unexpected surgery can put you back $500 to $1000, even if you have health insurance.  If your car engine blows, you could end up needing to put a couple of thousand dollars into the vehicle.  So, having money for a rainy day is an important step on the live debt free lifestyle

    Money Saving Tips

It is true that warehouse shopping can save a lot of money.  Even if you have a small family, you can always split large quantities.  The price of items in bulk is generally a great bargain.  If you are single, you might go in with friends or family on bulk items.
Coupons : Okay, maybe you used to laugh as you watched people pull out their coupons at stores but the truth is that using coupons can save you hundreds of dollars every year.  Coupons can be used at grocery stores, retail chains, any store where the item is sold.  Some stores offer double coupon days, which is an extra bonus.  On average, you could easily save from 5% to 15% on a bill for $100 simply by presenting a coupon.  Coupons are not just for food items and by scouring your local newspaper you can find coupons for all sorts of merchandise.
Comparison Shop : Comparison-shopping can make a big difference in the price you pay.  You might be looking at a barbecue grill at one place for $350.00 and by making two more stops, find the exact grill or one comparable for $300.  In addition, consider the price of items assembled versus unassembled.  For example, you might find the barbecue grill unassembled for $250.  A couple of hours of "fun" assembling the grill is certainly worth a $100 saving.
Stock Up : As you shop, if you notice that a brand you and your family use on a consistent basis is on sale for a great bargain, stock up.  As an example, if you use a particular type of shampoo costing $4.50 per bottle and you find it on sale for $2.50, go ahead and buy two bottles.  You should only do this on items you know will be used.
Allowance : Do not forget to give yourself an allowance for things you enjoy.  Even if on a tight budget, buy something that you enjoy, which could be as simple as buying a new shirt or grabbing lunch at your favorite café.  If you do not allow yourself this small "splurge", you could find yourself in the same position as if dieting.  Total deprivation leads to overindulgence.
Break old Habits : Take time to learn the various things that "trigger" your spending.  When you are depressed, lonely, sad, anxious, excited, whatever it may be, do you spend more?  Once you can identify these triggers then you can learn how to control them.  As an example, if you were just laid off from your job, although money is tight, you may have an overwhelming "need" to spend money.  Perhaps you notice that when you are bored, you head for the shops.  Knowing what affects you will help you to discipline yourself to find other ways of comfort.
Avoid Temptations : If you have a particular weakness, stay away from it.  If you love to gamble, stay out of the casinos.  If you have a weakness for shoes, drive past your favorite shoe store.  While avoiding temptation is hard, it is also necessary in order to save money.  When you want to give into your temptation, this is the time to use your "allowance".
Wants versus Needs : Make sure the thing you want to spend your money on is a "need" and not a "want."  Sometimes this can seem like a fine gray line but if you stick to the need list, you will spend les
