Find Out What Other Consumers Have to Say About Which Products Really Work
I'm a consumer. When I buy a product I expect it to perform as advertised. I'm not afraid to return things and I'm not at all hesitant to write a manufacturer to let them know if something fails to live up to it's marketing. I'm not belligerent, but I do expect my money's worth.
What's really wonderful though is when I find products that work as advertised. When it solves a problem or meets a need, I'll be the first to spread the word. That's why I made this page. I wanted to talk about a few products, very affordable ones at that, that really perform as expected. They're just everyday things but ones that have been worth the money for me. I'm not recommending that you go out and buy them, but rather just letting you know what my experience has been so that if you have the same need, you have more than the company's word as to whether or not they're worth the money.
I can make no guarantees of course but I can tell you my experience. Please feel free to offer your advice and suggestions as well.
A Product that Works to Bring a Smile to Your Face
Having a smile that you're not ashamed to show off can definitely make you look like a much happier person. My teeth have always been pretty good actually but certainly not the perfect Hollywood smile. My biggest complaint really was that I didn't have that bright white flashy grin that so many people seemed to have. I wasn't concerned enough apparently to go have expensive treatments at the dentist to remedy the situation. However, I did find that in some situations I would give a closed lipped grin or cover my mouth when laughing because I was self conscious as a kid.But here enters one of those products that work as advertised. Enter Crest White Strips some years later. I was interested once I learned that they were quite affordable, guaranteed, and approved by the American Dental Association. I spoke with my dentist about it and he said he had heard good things and that he felt things were up to snuff.
I marched down to the local drug store, bought a box, and 14 days later my mouth was making a statement. If you try them the first time I suggest you follow the instruction to do either your top or bottom teeth; and only then do the other. If nothing else this allows you to see the results clearly. It's pretty dramatic.
Of course now they're even more convenient and can work in half the time. I strongly suggest rinsing well after using them each time to assure your gums don't get irritated. When I do this I experience no problems at all. Even my dentist compliments my teeth now.
*Be sure to read the box regarding any exceptions.
A Product that Works as Advertised For Joints (I Think)
Ok this one is a bit more complex. I'm a middle aged person who started experiencing some stiffness and mild joint pain in my late thirties. When I mentioned it to my physician he said that there had been some documented evidence that Glucosamine could help although it was still being studied. He recommended that I simply go to the drug store and buy some over the counter to give it a try for awhile.Over the past 10 years I have used Glucosamine off and on. I can honestly say I experience significantly less pain and stiffness when taking it. (I used it for a couple of years and then stopped for more than a year, and then started again later when I started having problems again.) I'm not saying that staying active, stretching, and so forth don't help but in my experience the Glucosamine has been one of those products that works as advertised. Obviously I don't know if anything has physically changed or if my body is really benefitting but I know how I feel and the difference is dramatic for me.
I prefer the liquid form over the pills and will include a link to the product I actually buy if you're interested.
Make Your Sink Look Like New with This Product
I'm not an award winning housekeeper but I really don't like a nasty looking sink. I have a stainless steel sink to match the stainless appliances in my kitchen. Within months of getting it I found that it was stained, dirty, and somewhat discolored. I tried several different stainless cleaners all with dismal results. Then one day while at the local hardware store, an employee recommended a metal polish called Peek.I bought a small tube and took it home. Within minutes my sink looked like new. Spots that I thought were permanent were gone. Now Peek isn't easy to find in my part of the world. I rarely see it in the store, but I have learned that I can order it online.

A Product That Goes Beyond It's Advertised Claim
That's right. Some products work as advertised and then go further. I don't have a recommendation on a specific brand but I can say that an investment in a DVR is money well spent. (TiVo is the primary maker and various telecoms offer their own version) A DVR will spoil you as it allows you to rewind during live shows in case you missed something, didn't hear the dialogue, or whatever. Of course, it also allows you to record programming; much more than you could have ever captured on the old VHS tapes. You can even record more than one show at a time if there are things you want to catch on different channels. In my opinion a DVR goes beyond it's stated claims or obvious advantages. I would say it even makes a reasonable marital aide. Let me explain. My husband now watches almost all programming recorded versus live and it allows him to completely skip the commercials. The beauty of this is that his viewing time overall is nearly cut in half. So now, instead of watching a race or game for 2 or more hours, he spends an hour sitting in front of the TV. He's happy, I'm happy. Now when it's a glorious sunny Sunday and I want to go hiking with him, the answer is "Yes, I'll catch the race when we get home". The weather can't be put on hold but the TV can.
You Won't Get Burned with This Product
I think the "Ove Glove" started out selling in those little catalogues full of cheap products that regularly arrive in the mail. Then there were the low budget commercials on TV. Don't let the bargain basement reputation fool you, these little gloves work nicely.Unlike a potholder, Ove Gloves give you full coverage and you can hang on to those fresh out of the oven pots for quite some time before you feel any heat at all. Of course for me, one isn't enough. I work with two hands and I want them both protected. The Ove Glove is definitely one of those products that work as advertised.
A Product that Works to Banish Dry Skin
I have dry skin, always have. I've purchased a number of moisturizers over the years from the expensive perfumed feminine products to the huge bottles of generic brand lotions but the results were generally disappointing or too short lived. I used humidifiers, added baby oil to my bath water, and anything else I heard about to try to solve the problem. Then one day I picked up a bottle of Eucerin as a free sample and things changed. I noticed after one use that the texture of my skin was better immediately after use and the effects seemed to linger. After a few weeks I found that my skin really seemed to belong to someone else, someone with younger and more hydrated skin. For me Eucerin has been among the products that work as advertised without a doubt.
A Product That Can Banish the Itch
Insect bites can be bothersome at best. I tend not to wear the insect repellent sprays; there's something about covering my body in a chemical solution that bothers me. I do wear it in extreme circumstances such as when I go into the deep woods when hiking, but when possible I use other measures. On of my favorite products to keep on hand is something called After Bite. I came upon it one summer when the mosquitos seemed to have a particularly high appetite for my blood. I was pretty uncomfortable and asked the pharmacist for a suggestion. He recommended After Bite; stressing that it works best when applied immediately after being bitten.
For me, this has been a product that works just as advertised. It's not applied to prevent getting bitten, it's applied after the fact to stop itching. What it has excelled at doing for me is preventing the itch when applied within 15 minutes or so of being bitten. In fact, when I have applied it within this time frame, the bite really never itches at all. It's pen sized and therfore very portable. I merely stick it in a pocket or my purse.
Carpet Stain Eliminator
I'm generally pretty good to my carpet. In fact I rarely wear shoes inside the house and I don't have kids so things stay pretty nice that way. I do have cats, but so far, after four years, there have been no accidents. Great. Well, that's not to say there haven't been incidents.I once overwatered a houseplant without realizing it. It spilled over from it's perch and leaked dark, wet potting soil all over the carpet. It stayed there for a while too. It was in a guest room that I don't enter all that often. Well, by the time I saw it, it was an old stain and had dried completely. I tried several carpet cleaners to no avail. Then I came upon Spot Shot and decided to give it a try. With one application, the spot was gone within seconds. Honestly.
I had kind of forgotten about it, but recently, some years later, the carpeting in one of our bedrooms was stained when my husband marched into the house with dirt and grease on his shoes from working on his motorcycle. I saw it a few days later and again was unable to get rid of the huge blackened area with the typical carpet cleaners. Later, I remembered Spot Shot, went out and bought it. It actually took two applications this time, due to the stain being "ground in", but in the end the stain was gone and the rug was like new. I'm sure it could fail to remove a stain at some point, but thus far it's saved me and done far more than any other carpet stain remover I've tried.

- Wow! What an excellent idea for a lens; I think it goes to show the strength that using personal recommendations in a lens can help make it great! You could do a lens on each of these products!
I've never heard of Peek Metal Polish before but it sounds promising!
