If you have followed the instructions on Squidoo Blueprint you will find you are getting traffic almost immediately, and your lens will rank higher on google MUCH faster.

You should also join the SquidU forum, and other online discussion forums that you have a common interest in, and join in on the conversations. Your "ad" is your signature line (whatever your lens is) and people do click on it, resulting in new leads and sales. I know this from personal experience!

Another thing to do is to join as many groups here as possible. Some Squidoo groups allow everyone, others allow only certain lens categories. You want to read the terms of the group before joining if unsure to save yourself as well as the group moderator some time.

There is an added benefit to Squidoo, and that is they even keep track of your visitors! See where you are getting the most traffic from by going to your dashboard. Click on stats, which will give you a summary of the number of visitors your lens has had, and a more detailed analysis so you can discover not only where your traffic is coming from, but what links if any they have clicked on.
