Welcome to Profitable Niches.

My name is David Riewe and I am the owner of about 30 different domains and various blogs. Over the last four years I've tried various things to generate revenue on the internet. Some worked, most didn't. The biggest problem I found is I never developed a niche.

My definition of a profitable niche is that it meets the following requirements

  1. High Demand
  2. Low Supply
  3. Profitability Potential

KEI (Keyword Effective Index) Is used to evaluate the measure of Suppy and demand.  Ideally you want to target a Niche where there is high demand and low supply rather than enter into a market that is saturated.  You can read more about what KEY is here

Profitability Potential is determined by looking at what the PPC marketers are paying for the keyword on google adwords.  If you are trying to make money on google adsense then you want your pages to attract bids for keywords that have some decent bids.  For those who are not using google adsense, this is still a valid indicator because PPC Marketers don't bid on keywords used by "tire kickers".

In summary, a profitable niche is one where you stand a very good chance of getting highly ranked (because of High Demand and Low supply) and there is money being spent.

Weekly I use a program called Niche Inspector to do in depth analysis on different markets to uncover niches that show to be in high demand but have low supply. If you visit Niche Inspector and download the free report you can learn the technique that is being used and even apply it.

Doing it manually can take alot of time and I am lazy so I just bought the program.

Anyhow, you can download the report if you like to learn more or subscribe to my RSS feed and read the results of my research and use it if you so desire.

If there is a particular niche you would like me to investigate, then go to my contact page and send me the keywords. Using these keywords I will find out what the amount of searches are, how many people are targeting them (supply/ demand), and are people searching those keywords spending money or just tire kicking.

To Your Success,

David Riewe

Don't Make This Mistake!

Most marketers start with a product and then try to find someone to sell it to.

Find a market first that spends money, then find out what they want and give it to them.

I can show you how in this lens

Brainstorming For Ideas

For starters, I'm always aware of trends and current events in the real world. I read several newspapers each day, many magazines, both general and
niche-specific, I watch the news, I listen to the radio. Occasionally something that I hear or read will stick with me. I may record my thoughts on my portable voice recorder; jot down some notes, whatever happens to be convenient for me.
Sometimes I'll call my office voice mail and leave myself a message.

But at some point I'll have several broad ideas to research. I want to look
deeper. And I want to make sure there is a good market for them before I even think about creating a product.

So I'll begin completing the following steps:

Google Zeitgeist-
http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html

To begin with, I check out the hottest search trends at Google Zeitgeist. If I am targeting the US market, I'll click on "U.S. Zeitgeist," otherwise I'll look at "Zeitgeist Around the World." At this point I am just looking for ideas.

If I see that a particular topic is hot, I'll make a note of it and look at more targeted sub-niches later on at more specialized sites (which I'll show you shortly).

Other Places For Hot Niche Ideas

Lycos Top 50 - http://50.lycos.com;

The Lycos Top 50 is another site, like Google Zeitgeist, where I will review the latest trends and look for hot topics to explore further. I will also look at Yahoo! Buzz for ideas as well (see below).

Yahoo! Buzz -http://buzz.yahoo.com

eBay Pulse -http://pulse.ebay.com

The eBay Pulse site is a great place to start looking at sub-niches. What I will do is select the category first (using the topics I've gathered fromlooking at the previous sites), then look for profitable sub-niches by then selecting a sub-category.

The best chance for success is if I am as specific as possible with my niche selection. In the example below, I don't want to sell to the "crafts" niche.

I want to sell to grandmothers who enjoy giving their latch rug hooking gifts to their families and friends. Whatever. You get the idea.

Also, I'll always check the largest stores as well to see what they're selling. There has to be a reason they are the largest stores. They must be doing something right.

eBay also puts out a PDF report of their hottest categories each month, available at

http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/hotitems.pdf.

High demand, and low supply itself leads to profitable potential isnt,
If the demand is high and cannot be met with the enough supply, whatever supply is which is available is a profitable potential.
