Barack Obama now supports offshore drilling
During the primaries, Barack Obama depended heavily upon the support of environmentalists in order to gain the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Now that Obama has the nomination wrapped up, he's treating environmentalists like garbage.
On June 20, 2008, Obama explained why oil drilling will not help with the current crisis of high gasoline prices. He said, "In fact, President Bush's own Energy Department says that we won't see a drop of oil from his own proposal until 2017, and in fact, you wouldn't see any full production out of any oil drilling off the coast until 2030. It will take a generation to reach full production, and even then the effect on gas prices will be minimal, at best. "
But, public opinion polls show that large numbers of swing voters support offshore drilling, so on August 1st, Barack Obama announced that he supports oil drilling too.
Will Barack Obama say anything to get elected? How much further will Obama go to betray the trust that progressives placed in his campaign?
