Project Torque - Free Car Racing MMORPG

Project Torque is a completely free to play online racing MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). For those of you new to the term MMORPG it basically means a game where you continue to develop your character throughout the game.

In Project Torque this development take place in two ways.

As the driver you gain experience points and levels which allow you to unlock new game modes, tracks, and cars.

Also your cars can be upgraded and even styled by obtaining RP points. RP points are similar to currency that you will spend in the game for various advantages.

Project Torque currently features six different game modes which are:

Pro VS
Amateur VS
Capture the flag
Thunder Alley
Explorer
Racing Challenge

Two additionally game modes are rumored to be coming with the next patch: drift mode, and drag racing.

The Pro VS game mode is a mix of street, mud, and circuit racing with ghost mode turned off.

This means that cars can collide with each other and crash or receive damage.

In Amateur VS you will race street, mud, and circuit tracks just like in Pro VS. The only difference is ghost mode is on and you can't collide with other cars.

In the Capture The Flag game mode you are pitted against several opponents (up to eight players) in a fairly small enclosed area.

The object of this game mode is to score the most points by keeping the flag for the longest time. You can also gain bonus points by taking the flag through gates (marked as a yellow bar on your minimap).

You can steal the flag from other players by smashing into their car.

The truly good players in capture the flag have become adept at faking off their opponents. You will often see them brake and turn one way a small bit then brake and turn the other way to throw off their pursuers.

Thunder Alley is like formula or stock car racing. It takes place on an oval track with anywhere between 5 and 30 laps. The races are full contact, and include drafting, fuel management, and pit stops.

Explorer mode is a game of collecting objects that are scattered throughout a track. It's not a race in a traditional sense.

There are generally two types of play in Explorer mode.

Free for all: Try to collect the most items.

Combo only: Collect only 3 items of the same type. The idea behind this game mode is that the combos will ultimately award more points and spread points more evenly between all players who
follow the rules.

While I haven't played this game mode myself, according to the Project Torque in game description you race other players for a chance to win AP (Aeria Points).
