Here's Another Way to Spread the Link Love and Promote Your Niche Topic Lenses

With more than 450 lenses under my belt, I've learned time and again that Squidoo changes mean a lot of work updating and reformatting. One change in 2011 was the elimination of the lensroll feature. To be honest, I wasn't very bothered by the loss of lensrolling capability. My niche topics include many lenses—for example, I have 75 Livermore Valley winery lenses. It was a pain in the you-know-what to lensroll them to each other. Often I lacked the time or desire to bother with it. What I did miss when lensrolls disappeared was easy access to other lenses in a particular niche. Here's how I got around it with my Livermore winery lenses. Using a text module, I created links to ALL of the wineries, as shown here. Then I copied and pasted the information to a text module at the end of every lens in that niche. I'm assuming most readers won't even get that far, but the links are there if I need to find a lens quickly. Best of all, if I need to make a change or add a new winery to the list, it's a simple matter of copying and pasting the information to related lenses. No more checklists, no more left-out lenses, no more wasted time.

I've been gradually expanding the concept to the rest of my lenses. The modules I created for my niche topics are shown below, just as they appear on my lenses. To see them in action, just click on any lens title and scroll down to the very bottom of the lens. I do miss being able to lensroll other lenses besides my own, but can still feature them and provide plenty of links voting plexos.

Farewell Lensroll

Here's how I created links to other lenses in my niche topics using a Squidoo text module. It's a work in progress -- I've got a few more favorite topics to cover.

Create Your Own Style

I'm a big fan of style guides, even for lenses. For these link modules, the "style" calls for a relevant Squid graphic and a clickable banner to define the end of the module.
