Dog Training Tips

Using proper dog training techniques to ensure you raise your dog correctly is not a difficult task. The hard part is learning the correct techniques in the first place. There are three easy steps to doing it. 1. Build a strong, healthy relationship with your dog. 2. Remember the old addage KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. 3. Repetition is key. How do I do this, you ask? Good question. Just follow the steps.

Building a good relationship

Step one in properly training your dog

Building a good relationship should be fairly easy. You've already shown that you care by looking up this on dog training techniques. That's the first part. Just make sure to keep feeding and spending time with your dog everyday and you're golden like a mini buhdda statue. Secondly, make sure the dog knows that you are the dominant one in the relationship. I'm in no way saying that you need to go all crazy on your dog and lock her/him up in solitary just for looking at you cross-eyed. The best way to discipline your dog is to ignore them. In order for this to work, you have to make sure to reward them every time they do something right. This ensures to reward their good behavior and you turning your back on them (literally) when they misbehave, will ensure they do the opposite.

The second step to training your dog properly

KISS

KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. There's a reason all the traditional dog commands are short and to the point. Think about it. Sit. Stay. Heal. Dog commands should be no more than three syllables. Any more and a dog can not understand them. Full sentences just sound like the Charlie Brown teacher to a dog. And while you're keeping it simple, only worry about one command at a time. If you try to teach little Fido ten different commands each day, he/she will end up learning none. Then, all you've accomplished is step one. That's not really why you're reading this page, is it?

Dog Training Step Three

Repetition is key

Learning for dogs in many ways is just like it is for you learning dog training techniques. Repetition is key. Make sure that spending time with your dog is something that you do every day and covering all the commands you've worked on. Let me ask you a quick question. Do you remember how to do long division? Most adults don't. I bet your kid does. That's because your kid practices it every day. But, unless they continue to, they will forget because they won't need it after using a calculator for years on end. Your dog is the same way. They will forget how to do all those tricks that you've worked so hard to teach them. You wouldn't want all that time and effort you spent looking up dog training techniques and actually doing them to go to waste do you?
