Prostate Cancer Treatment: Male Lumpectomy

Dr. Onik is the orginal developer of both liver and prostate cancer cryosurgery. He treated the first liver patients with cryosurgery in 1986 and the first patient with prostate cryosurgery in 1990. 

Dr. Onik has pioneered the concept of "Male Lumpectomy" in which ony the cancerous area of the prostate is destroyed by freezing. Dr. Onik is recognized as a leader in developing the techniques and instrumentation that have been integral to the minimally invasive treatment of cancer. He has won multiple awards for his pioneering work in oncology and most recently won the 2004 prize for best research paper given by the Society of Uroradiology for his research and techniques pertaining to "The Male Lumpectomy" for treating prostate cancer. Actively engaged in many improvements in the care of prostate cancer patients Dr. Onik maintains ongoing research collaborations with leading centers in the field of prostate cancer including, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Virginia and the National Cancer Institute.
