Prostate Health
Despite the fact that enlarged prostate gland and prostate cancer are among the most common problems faced by men of all ages, very few men actually know what the prostate gland is or what it does. The intent of this article is to raise awareness about the basic facts about the prostate gland.
The prostate gland is a sex gland in human males; in fact, it produces some of the parts of semen and surrounds the ejaculatory ducts at the base of the urethra (urine tube). It is around the size of a walnut, it is partly glandular and partly muscular, with ducts opening into the prostatic portion of the urethra. The prostate is made up of three lobes: a centrally located lobe with one lobe on each side. The prostate gland secretes a slightly alkaline fluid that forms part of the seminal fluid, a fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation.
There are several benign prostate problems that develop in men which can lead to serious illness such as prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - enlarged prostate, inflammations of the gland, and infections. These conditions can be quite serious, but are not cancerous or cancer causing nor are they life threatening. These illnesses can be exhibited by men or all ages and are not restricted to any particular age group; however most of them tend to affect men in their later years (after the age of sixty) and are quite pronounced in men in their seventies and eighties. And many of these conditions are treatable with all natural herbal supplements such as Prostacet.
- Prostatism - This is a medical term which essentially describes any condition of the prostate gland which obstructs the flow of urine from the bladder through the urethra.
- Prostatitis - This term describes any conditions which cause swelling or inflammation of the prostate gland. Conditions of this type are often accompanied by mild to moderate and in some cases severe pain, discomfort while urinating, repeated urination or with greater frequency than normal as well as flu like symptoms or fever.
- Prostatalgia - a term that indicates pain in the prostate gland. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - the condition of an enlarged prostate. BPH is the main non-cancerous prostate problem. It can cause discomfort and create problems urinating. Although it is not cancer, BPH symptoms are very similar to those of prostate cancer. These include impotence, or the inability to have or keep an erection, and urinary incontinence, or the loss of bladder control.
prostate gland basics
The other and more serious illness associated with the prostate gland of course is cancer. The fear of having prostate cancer can be devastating to most men. Prostate cancer is most successfully treated when discovered early. Consider these statistics supplied from the American Cancer Society: Nearly 80 percent of all prostate cancers is discovered while they are still localized, or confined to the prostate. The five-year survival rate for men diagnosed with prostate tumors that are discovered at this early stage is a whopping 100 percent. Testing works!
Advances in medical science, especially in the early detection stages of prostate cancer have raised the survival rate exponentially. This is due to the fact that there are very few if any symptoms associated prostate cancer in the early stages and therefore can only be detected by regular examination by your physician. Regular check-up and examination are extremely important as they can help rule out prostate cancer in the very early stages, which is very important to your prostate health. You doctor may conduct DRE (digital rectal exam) or PSA (prostate specific antigen). If the PSA test results show higher than normal level of PSA, your doctor may order another set of tests.
The health of the prostate gland can be maintained by using natural herbal supplements such as Prostacet; which promotes healthy functioning of the prostate gland.
