The Reality of Technology and Our Children!

As a parent and an educator I have become appauled and frightened at what is happening with and to our children through technology and media! Our children are, our culture is at an all time high risk and so many people are completely blind to what is actually going on! The youth of the world are being ripped of their innocence and exploited in alarming numbers. What if it was your child? What if it is? How do we, as parents, know? I am here to tell you, sometimes you don't. I am also a witness that one should never assume that they do know or have it under control because it simply may not be true. I have seen it time and time again as a teacher! Come with me to explore the current dangers, some you may not have even thought of or heard of and then let us take a look at what YOU can do, what WE can do!

Sharing Statistics

Stealing Innocence and Creating Addictions

While I would love to post statistics here, I'm afraid the filters on Squidoo will not permit it due to key words. I can't blame Squidoo as somone would surely take the liberty too far and ruin it for all squidoo-ers! However, you really should read up on statistics involving children online! It is very enlightening, eye opening and something everyone concerned about children, our culture and future should be fully aware of...

You can learn more about all sorts of online statistics by visiting the "ENOUGH" website at ENOUGH

Awesome Awesome!

type=textI absolutely fell in love with this when I first saw it! How would you like to know that anyone attempting to send sexually oriented content of any sort to your loved one, would receive a message on THEIR computer screen saying "CEASE and DESIST" by a lawyer? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! This is a must watch video on the technology:

Internet Safety for Children and Teens

The Cell Phone

Texting While Driving, Bullying and MORE

type=textI believe the two videos above covered the fears, threats and risks of cell phone usage right along side of the internet. However, let me also state that teens sharing indecent photos with each other is still considered a felony because of the age (minors). In the last couple of years, teens have been charged with this crime. I can't tell you the number of students I have seen heartbroken because someone they thought they could trust with a private photo, sent it on to many many others and even posted it on social media networks! Likewise, I have witnessed and reported many cases of threats of violence, abuse and more through this wonderful technology we have. I am a mandated reporter, so the same number I have seen, I have also reported.

When it comes to our children and teens, it seems that the word just doesn't get out and for many it just doesn't stick. It is that "it wont happen to me" brain wave! Unfortunately it does happen to them, alot of them. It is our duty as parents to fill in the gaps of their thinking with our action! I do want to share one more video with you. I hope you will take time to watch it!

I Hope...

type=textI hope something in this lens struck a nerve with you! Frankly, it all strikes a nerve with me and I sometimes get extremely frustrated that our government, our people allows such to go on! Some things should just not be allowed and I'm amazed at how much is known of the damage that is created from such and it is still allowed to exists. But, with that being the case, we MUST do all we can to protect our children! We must protect their hearts, minds and souls!
