- there are a few fish that can work in both SW and Fresh, like Molly's or Mono's, which live in brackish water. For the most part though fish are adapted to a particular environment (so no big sharks in freshwater lakers, and no pinanha in the ocean). The basic physical issue though is one of osmosis. Fish blood, like many animals, has a specific salinity. And, osmosis is the property of two liquids trying to equalize that salinity across a membrane, like gills or even skin. FW fish live in water that is less saline than their blood, and so their entire physiology is adapted to expelling the "extra" water that their bodies absorb as a result of their internal salinity being higher than that of the surrounding water. SW fish do the opposite, as they constantly "drink" water to replace the water that their bodies lose to the external pressure of the saltwater. Few fish can change this basic physiology when they move from too salty (SW) to less salty (FW) or viceversa

- It is most definitely not possible. Unless they are Estuary Dwelling Fish (reside in fresh & salt water), you cannot, as they will die.Fish that live in salt water are adapted to a certain density (the amount of salt in water) and they cannot be converted to freshwater.
