Protein Skimmers do you really need one?

Protein skimmers

Protein skimmers can be a life saver to those of us that don't have a lot of extra time. I love my reef tank but I don't have the time to clean it like it should be done or like they did before protein skimmers. I like the idea of no matter when the fish go potty it is starting on its way out of the tank. So if you are like me you need to make sure you have a good skimmer. A good skimmer is like a good repair man. With a little bit of maintenance in the beginning means you are less likely to have as big of problems latter on with the tank.

Protein Skimmers do you really need one?

Some people say that they are important to a saltwater aquarium while others say there is no need for them. It all depends on how much work you want to put into the tank. If you like to work on your tank for a couple of hours a day you won't need one. But I love my tank but I cannot see putting that much time into it. I have an ASM protein skimmer. I love it; it has made taking care of the tank so much easier. I don't have to worry about the nitrates getting as high as before, since the pooh is out of the tank or at least most of it is. The fish and the corals seem to be a lot happier now.
I know some people that have otherprotein skimmers like the Current skimmers, Octopus skimmers and the AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmers. So there are a lot of different options about which one is the best. They come from hang on back skimmers to in the sump on up to the ones that look like they could put it on the ocean to clean. The prices vary just like the sizes do.
So one thing for sure if you are getting a tank or all ready have one make sure you get the biggest and best one for you. Once again it all depends on what you like or don't like. Mine is an ASM plus it is rated up to a 350 gallon tank. My tank is a 220 gallon with a 75 gallon sump. So I can still grow in my tank without having to buy a new one any time soon.

can you believe this is in your tank?
