Proxy Sites

Proxy sites can hide your ip address, unblock sites from web filters and make you anonymous when you browse the Internet. Let's see how a proxy site do it.

Hiding ip address
When a user opens a website through a proxy site, the proxy server (web server where proxy site is running) opens the website and then the contents are relayed to the user by the proxy. In other words, its a two step process - user opening proxy site and proxy site opening the website. To the website, the contents are opened by the ip address of the proxy server and not the user's ip address. Also, at the user's end, the user is opening the ip address of the proxy server and not that of the website. Therefore, the ip address of the user is hidden from the user and the ip address of the website is hidden from the user. The proxy server's ip address acts as the common access point for both the user and the website thus hiding the ip addresses of the user and the website from each other.

Unblocking sites
As the user is opening the proxy site ( and the ip address of the proxy), the network filters at the user's end doesn't detect that the user is opening the website. Hence, the blocking mechanism of the network filter is bypassed. So, if the user opens any site through the proxy, the network filter can only detect one ip adress - that of the proxy site. Hence, blocked sites are easily unblocked and can be browsed without problem.

Being Anonymous
The IP address of the user is exposed only to the proxy site and not to any of those sites that the user is browsing. So, no matter what sites the user is browsing, the ip address of the user is hidden from those sites. Hence the user's personal information is hidden and the user can browse the web anonymously.
