The most common reason for using a proxy is to gain access to social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter etc or also video sharing sites like Youtube.

The problem is that proxies are often blocked as soon as the network administrator at a school or workplace becomes aware of the fact that one is being used to gain unauthorised access to prohibited websites. Because of this there is always a need for new proxy websites. Also, because proxy servers deliver the websites to you rather than you visiting the website directly, their compatibility with each website varies from proxy to proxy. What this means is you may find things don't work in quite the same way with your favorite website through a proxy server compared with accessing the site directly from home.
