Amazing Wild Horses

There is a place in Montana that's really amazing. It's a place that is pretty difficult to get to, in fact it's not for the faint hearted, but it's one of favorite places.

The first magical trip...

When I was about 12 years old, my grandfather took me to the Pryor Mountains for a camping and hunting trip. Part of my heart remains there to this day. The Pryor Mountains straddle Montana and Wyoming, have a number of boundaries including US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Crow Tribal Land and leased and private ranch and. It is complicated and extremely beautiful. Not a place for those who don't like to rough it. You cannot take a car, you cannot go in inclement weather. My grandpa, among many called it "big country". So big that you could lose camp, your 4x4, even your life. It's a place where I've been stranded, amazed, cold, rejuvenated. I love it.

I was actually featured in a magazine!

What a terribly fun project to be a part of! Horse of Course was a public art project to raise money to finish the historic train depot. My horse was fashioned after the beautiful pinto pony. I believe I got the idea from my grandpa who had passed away. I know it sounds strange but the idea just came to me. He had a great sense of humor and it just 'felt' like him telling me to do it. The life-size quarter horse fiberglass form was completely covered in a number of different kinds of beans. Thousands of beans in fact. Ultimately, a little bit of an act of madness! hahahaha
