PS2 or PS3 for my nephew?

It's usually harder for me to pick up presents for men (whether it's my boyfriend, my dad, uncle or someone much younger) than for women. It's not a big problem to choose something for a lady, even if you have no idea what she actually wants. There are plenty of unique things which any female (of any age) wouldn't mind to have. Something that will help her look more beautiful (cosmetics/ jewelry items) or just a cute fluffy toy - enough to make her happy for a while. The situation with men is a bit different and more complicated.

Luckily for me, when it's about teenagers the choice of what to select as a birthday present narrows. A friend of mine was nice to give me a piece of useful advice. He convinced me that all male teenagers dream about having a Playstation2 console (PS2) or Playstation3 (PS3). (Or maybe he was thinking about himself? :)). Anyway, I had no reasons to doubt his words and let my fingers Google search to find out what it's all about and which one to choose. A little research on the topic and that's what I have:

The Sony Play Station 2 (PS2) was the next evolution in the video game world, coming out with more power than the model before and more features. It had separate sound outputs to hook up to a surround sound system; it also had the ability to play DVD movies and go online. Since its launch in the late 2000, the PS2 has racked up sales of over 120 million units and over 1 billion software titles have been sold. Sounds impressive to me. And now it's pretty cheap to buy.

In 2006 (the US launch) the gaming industry celebrated another major event, the launch of Play Station 3 (PS3) which has more features (better graphics) and better in terms of capabilities. The PS3 lets you go online and watch videos and lets you play PS2 and PS1 games. Although in terms of games right now the PS2 is better because you can play a HUGE library of games, they say, PS3 will catch up with it soon.

After a short consideration I decided to stay on PS3 for now (I tend to think that the first choice is always the right one as you are guided rather by intuition than critical mind). Hope my nephew won't be disappointed with that...

As I fixed upon PS3, another task for me was to think of how I could get it at a reasonable price. I love my nephew but spending around $500 on some gadget would be too much for me. I was thinking of where I could get a new or used PS3 console to fit my budget and remembered that the second thing that my friend advised me was of great help. He suggested that I tried eBay (however I heard that it shouldn't always be trusted), social shopping communities, group buy sites and classifieds in my area, and I found plenty of options for my purchase there. I managed to find a guy who was selling his PS3 and the price was comparatively low as he needed money for some urgent reasons.
