Baby Wearing Made Stylish with Beautiful, Handmade Pslings

When I first spotted Keri Russell's photo of carrying her son in a Psling. I thought to myself; it's great that celebrities are jumping on the baby wearing band wagon. (or even starting the trend) However, I scoffed at the idea of buying a $350 sling which basically comes down to a piece of fabric and two rings. How much more extravagant can you get?

Then the arrival of my daughter and nothing could soothe her except to be in a baby carrier. Even my arms were too stimulating for her and at first, the Ergo baby with the Infant Insert was a god send. However, it being bulky and unattractive was a deterrent. And it was such an ordeal to put it on and strap her against me. I needed something I could slide her in and out of for those short baby wearing sessions. I started looking online for a ring sling. A sling made out of fabric and held together by two rings. I kept coming back to the Psling.

It has gotten so many rave reviews by baby wearing moms. They all tout its the most comfortable ring sling they own. And it's simply gorgeous. The beautiful fabric is handwoven and dyed by Japanese Artisans. It truly is a work of art. So I became a bit more interested until I couldn't take it any longer. I went to the PSNY located on Houston St. in Soho and bought my first Psling. I have to say that I absolutely love it. This has started my obsession with the uber stylish Psling.

History of Psling and Why Baby Wearing

"A baby sling should exist not only as a baby carrier but also as an accessory item."

Mothers all around the world wear their babies close to their bodies. Even in primitive cultures, babywearing is the accepted norm. Coincidentally, in babywearing societies, colic doesn't exist. So it's an excellent way to bond with your baby and also help soothe the dreaded colic or even the fussy period every baby seem to get.

Baby Carriers especially baby slings have become a must have baby item. Celebrities have made it fashionable but it is also very practical. It frees up your hands so you can get things done but keeps the baby close to you to nurture bonding. This is what the creator of Psling noticed. Created in 2005 in Japan:

Yasukazu Konno, the company's founder/COO, saw mothers who were holding their babies with one-sheet fabric while he was visiting hospitals in Central Asia and South America as a consultant for a medical equipment firm in the early 90s. He was impressed by the idea of "baby wearing," and the fabrics that make a mother and baby become "as one."

Those experiences led him to do some research on various baby carriers on the market at that time, including American baby holders (Baby Sling) and a European Style holder, but he wasn't be satisfied with any of them Therefore, he asked his wife, Chizuko Konno (Co-founder/CEO) to create their original baby sling. They thought that simply making functional slings was boring, so they started to make slings that could also serve as fashion accessories parents would enjoy wearing. (from Psling Website)

Handcrafted by Artisans, and made with only natural fabrics. This breathable and fashionable sling is a must have or any discerning moms.

5 reasons to get Psling

Beautifully Handcrafted with Natural Breathable Fabrics

1. Psling uses Cotton and Linen and recently introduced the Eco-friendly bamboo. Only natural soft materials to be against your baby's gentle skin yet tough enough to handle up to 39 lbs. This sling is a work horse with delicate appearance. The shoulders are padded but isn't bulky.

2. Highly breathable fabric; perfect for summer. The Linen is one of the most breathable fabrics while their Sijira line uses an ancient Japanese technique of weaving of applying a different weaving tension which is used in summer Kimonos. The fabric is reinforced to withstand baby's weight. Sijira fabric is highly hygroscopic and breathable. Although made of cotton, it has cooling qualities similar to linen.

3. During dyeing process, the linen is carefully hand-dyed in factories in Kyoto where they have dyed kimono fabrics for generations. Craftsmen don't use chemical paste, but use a natural paste.

4. Comfortable enough to wear for hours. Many mothers I have come across on the net who own Psling raves how comfortable it is. The pad is ingenious because it's deceptively thin but has enough padding so you can carry your baby stylishly without sacrificing comfort

5. I should mention.. it's just stunning. Incredibly well made and just beautiful to look at. It really is a work of art. I don't think pictures can do it justice.
