November-December Holiday Issue - Topical Creams and Ointments
Topical creams and ointments are used to treat psoriasis and is usually the first thing that your doctor will prescribe to treat your skin condition. Most of the prescription creams and ointments are steroids or corticosteroids which are man made, synthetic drugs. They are quite powerful and should be used sparingly. Over use can cause severe thinning of the skin.
Dovonex is another prescription cream that is based on synthetic vitamin D rather than steroids. Personally I never had any success with Dovonex but they sell a lot of it whether it works or not!
The National Psoriasis Foundation has a page on their website with the current prescription topicals that are available for psoriasis here:
http://psoriasis.org/treatment/guide/pre/?cat=abaaac
I have used quite a few of the products on the list. The one that worked best for me was Ultravate Ointment. It is available now in a generic at quite a cost savings.
Your other option is to try over the counter products. Petroleum Jelly is an inexpensive product that many people use. I believe that it actually causes the plaques to spread so I would avoid using it.
There are some other products that you can find at your local grocery or drug store. Most provide little or no benefit and you should probably save your money.
If you are looking for an all natural product that produces results that are equal to or better than the prescription drugs, I highly recommend Bee Clear Psoriasis cream.
This amazing blend of natural products helps to reduce inflammation, aids in removing scale buildup, moisturizes and lubricates skin, and helps to restore skin to its original state.

October 2007 - To Tan, or Not to Tan? That is the Question!
There is a lot of controversy when it comes to tanning. Ask one doctor and he will tell you to stay out of the sun because it causes cancer. Ask another doctor and he will say go ahead and tan because it prevents cancer.Should you tan naturally with the sun, or should you use a tanning bed? Which is better? Which is safer?
If you decide to use a tanning bed, what's the difference between the one in your doctors office, to the one at the tanning salon, to the one you can buy and use in your home?
All of these questions and a lot more are discussed in the latest version of Say Goodbye to Psoriasis II. A whole chapter is devoted to light therapy and treating psoriasis.
Find out if it is something you should be using in your psoriasis treatment regimen, or if it is simply a waste of time and money.
If you are interested in tanning, you'll discover where you can get a tanning bed like the one pictured for as little as $100.00
Visit the Psoriasis Cure site at http://www.psoriasiscure.net for more information on successfully treating psoriasis.
Simply copy & paste that link into your browser or click on any of the active links on this page.
Bee Clear Psoriasis Cream has proven to work well in conjunction with tanning either naturally or with a tanning bed. You will find more information on this product through links on this page, or go to: www.bee-clear.com
Note that if you do not tan in the sun, you are not going to tan with a tanning bed. Also, there are some people who definitely should not tan due to certain skin types. If you have any concerns contact your physician or dermatologist before starting any treatment program.
September 2007, Vitamins, Supplements and Psoriasis
Many people are looking for a vitamin pill or supplement that will magically clear their psoriasis. Unfortunately, at this time, one does not exist! However there are reports from people around the world who have had success using different supplements to aid in clearing their psoriasis.
One supplement that pops up frequently is Turmeric.
Turmeric, or Curcuma longa, is a spice native to India and Southeast Asia. Curcumin is the active ingrediant in Turmeric and it contains a mixture of phytonutrients known as curcuminoids which posses anti-inflammatory properties and is a powerful antioxidant.
Turmeric is also found in curries and prepared mustards, which provides the yellow color.

Another popular supplement is Fish Oil. My personal preference is Krill Oil rather than Fish Oil but both provide helpful benefits for those with psoriasis.
Krill oil contains omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It's also rich in vitamin E and A, and functions as a powerful antioxidant.
Omega-3 EFAs are increasingly recognized for their many health-promoting benefits, including cardiovascular, neurological, bone and joint, vision, skin health and more.
Those suffering from psoriatic arthritis should definitely take Krill Oil daily. You should notice a marked improvemnt in your joints in just days.
Regarding vitamins and psoriasis I recommend taking a complex multi-mineral and vitamin that's formulated for your sex and age.
If you eat a healthy diet you should get all the vitamins and minerals you need but in today's fast paced world, that seldom works out, so it's a good idea to take a vitamin pill daily.
August 2007 - Psoriasis and Food
There does appear to be a number of foods that can cause a psoriasis flair or aggravate the skin condition.
In my book, Say Goodbye to Psoriasis II, I devote a chapter covering all the major food groups and rate them red, yellow, or green as to whether they are safe to eat, questionable, and what should be avoided.
Basically you should avoid all fast and junk food! Big surprise, right? The majority of psoriasis sufferers are over weight and have poor eating habits.
Fast food and junk food should be replaced by seafood and vegetables. If you will eat salmon or trout, along with some green vegetables twice a week you may start seeing some improvement with your skin.
There are a number of people who have published books on treating psoriasis by strictly modifying your diet.
My personal opinion is that while diet is important, it is the least important of the three major parts of my Say Goodbye to Psoriasis treatment method.
Most of the diet methods are difficult to stick with, definitely not for everyone, and if they do work, it takes 4-6 months to notice any significant clearing.
There are much easier and faster ways to achieve psoriasis clearing and remission.
July 2007 - What You Drink Affects Psoriasis
What you drink should be addressed immediately if you are suffering from psoriasis.
I recommend for a period of 30 - 60 days that you drink nothing except spring water or tea.
All alcohol is bad. Soft drinks are even worse, and this includes both regular and diet beverages. The artificial sweetners being used all have chemicals that could be responsible, or are contributing to your skin condition.
The only artificial sweetner I recommend using now is Stevia which is all natural. No chemicals!
Milk should be avoided unless you have access to raw, unprocessed milk.
It's unclear if coffee has an effect on psoriasis but if you can quit for 30 days, and subsitute tea or spring water, your odds of success will increase.
Sports drinks should also be avoided as many contain sugar and chemicals that aren't doing you any good.
You should drink at least half an ounce of water for each pound of body weight. If you weigh 200 lbs you should drink 8 - 12oz glasses of water. If that seems like a lot, it isn't. If you eliminate all your other drinks, it's probably around the same amount of liquid consumption.
I would not drink tap water unless you have a filtration system. There are many bottled waters available in the grocery stores and convenience stores, but you want to get plain old Spring water.
I buy it by the gallon for .64 at the grocery store and fill up my sports bottle.
Does this mean that you can never have a soda, beer or cocktail in the future? No, not at all! The beverages mentioned can all cause problems so if you are seriously trying to clear your psoriasis, I recommend that for 30-60 days you refrain.
Then based on how your skin is doing, you can reintroduce the different drinks and see how you respond. After you are clear, moderation should prevail!
This alone will not likely cure your psoriasis but it may help. For a complete treatment method that works fast, is safe and easy to do, check out the Psoriasis Cure website at:
