How To Install Or Change Your PSP Theme?

By changing your PSP Themes, there's a very small chance of bricking your PSP IF you do it the wrong way. Please do not do these if you really don't want to risk your PSP.

Before we start, I'll tell you what you need:
- The PSP Theme you desire
- PSP Firmware 3.70 or higher
- USB to connect to your computer

Here are the steps:

Step 1 - Download your desired PSP theme
Step 2 - Connect Your PSP to PC via USB
Step 3 - Open your PSP drive on your computer
Step 4 - Create a folder called "Theme" if you don't have one
Step 5 - Extract the file (.PTF) from your desired theme folder to the "Theme" folder on your PSP
Step 6 - Disconnect your PSP from your PC
Step 7 - On your PSP, go to Settings -> Theme change to the theme that you want
Step 8 - Press Apply when you have decided

Alright that's it, you have your new PSP Theme. If you have problems or error please write in at the guestbook.

What's The Difference Between .PTF and .CTF Theme?

The Differences

Maybe you've been to some sites and are confuse why are there different layouts on some of the themes. There are basically 2 types of themes that I know of. .PTF and .CTF

Can you see the difference? The left one is the .PTF and the right one is .CTF.

PTF will only change your icon and wallpaper and it does not need custom firmware whereas CTF needs it. As you can see, CTF is a very interactive theme because it changes the whole layout of the PSP including the PSP startup.

I've tried changing my themes a lot of times and never had a brick before. My findings of CTF themes are 100% unbrickable. Though I do not promise that it'll will not happen to yours.

Install CTF Themes On Your PSP

In case you didn't know, now you can have custom themes without flashing. The steps are exactly the same as when you're installing CTF themes only that you need to download an additional plugin.

Download the plugin here and extract the file and place it into your memory card root "MS0:/" After you have downloaded your .CTF theme, place it under MS0:/PSP/Theme.

Now you need to enable CXMB (the plugin) in your PSP *Recovery Mode. After enabling the plugin, restart your PSP, go to Settings -> Theme then apply your desired theme.

*Recovery Mode - Hold R1 when turning on your PSP after it has been fully switched off.
