The site that you are downloading from is an important issue. There are so many free PSP download sites that you have to be careful in picking a reliable one. You need to be very wary of which site to choose, as a lot of these sites will give you free downloads PSP that will not work properly, often at incredibly slow speeds, and sometimes with malware attached. Stay away from these dishonest and dangerous sites. That is pretty much it. Like I said some tricks like good sites and PSP formats and you should be fine. That is really everything you have to do to download games onto your PSP. As soon as the files are on the PSP you can launch them by opening up the GAME menu and selecting the game you want from the choices available. You can get error messages at this point, and these often happen because of incompatible firmware. This is not an unusual problem if you have downloaded home brew files, but you can often solve it by downgrading the firmware on your PSP to one of the early ones.
