Setting Up PSP Internet Capabilities
The Sony PlayStation Portable, or otherwise known as PSP, is not only a portable gaming device, but a mobile media manager as well. It allows you to take along your movies and music and games with you wherever you go. So you can be sure that you're going to be entertained by your device as long as there's a charge in the battery. But there is also a less-conventional function of the PSP: browsing the internet or playing multiplayer games through Wi-Fi.
How to connect through Wi-Fi
If you want to try out networking on the PSP, playing multiplayer modes on a game with you buddy, or even surfing the net through your device, you'll need to learn how to set up your PSP unit's internet connection settings. Doing so, you can connect to pretty much any Wi-Fi network and use it to you and your PSP's advantage.
Starting the setup process
Working with Wi-Fi, your PSP will only be able to connect to any networks within its range. To enable wireless networking, you'll have to switch on the wireless function; a toggle switch is found on the left side of the device, near the analog stick and the indicator lights. You should turn this on only when you're going to use wireless, since it presents an additional drain on the battery.
Turning the wireless on, the device can now look for wireless networks within range, as well as other PSP units so that you can play in multiplayer mode. The infrastructure wireless networking function allows you to browse the internet through your device. This is the function you want, so select it under the device settings screen. Now you're ready to begin setup process.
Selecting "new connection" on your PSP starts up a dialog screen that allows you to name your new connection. Name it appropriately so that you know when you can and can't use it to connect to the net. You won't want to set things up manually, so just select scan for the device to automatically get WLAN settings to best match your PSP with the network. Once you're scanning, a list of available networks will pop up, and you can take your pick where you want to connect to. It also shows if you need a password to connect to that network and how strong the available signal is. If there's a password, contact whoever is in charge of the network so that the password can be given to you as well.
Once you've finished the password stuff you're more or less in the clear and just a few steps away from surfing the net on your PSP. The settings that you configured will be displayed onscreen and you'll have the option to save it. After you do, you can now start connecting to the network. Now you can go to the internet browser and start surfing the net.

Additional functions
Not only will you be able to surf the net through the built in browser of the PSP, you'll also be able to play multiplayer games online. This is an added element of fun to your gaming experience, and nothing fires anyone up more than the thrill of real life competition. As a support function, you can also update the software for your PSP through the network update function of the PSP and be able to run the latest firmware that Sony has released.
