Awareness in Children
Children are more aware than we sometimes give them credit for and see things that we may dismiss as wild imaginings, for our own fear of the unknown automatically dismisses what we percieve as irrational. There is magic in a childs view of the world until it is taken away by well meaning adults who in turn had it taken away from themselves, in order to spare the child disillusion later in life. Who are we trying to comfort here?

The following list may indicate if your child is psychic or not.
Very sensitive and quick to tears, upset at the slightest thing
Mood swings from happy to sad in an instant
Disturbed sleep (frequent nightmares)
Apparently talking to themselves or imaginary friends
Coming out with profound insights (way beyond their years) which may answer pressing questions if we were to pay attention. Mummy and daddy don't always know best especially when higher powers are trying to tell us something through our own children.
It is becoming increasingly obvious to those with the intuitive wherewithall that we are not alone on this walk we call life on the earthplane. I believe that mankind is waking up to the fact that there is something other than just life and a purely material reality. It is said that 2012 will herald a new age of awareness and the promised 1000 year peace which has been foretold by sages, seers and prophets for millenia, hard to believe in the current client of political unrest, but if enough like minded people send out the right message to the universe there can be peace and an end to conflict in the world.
Anyone who has lost a loved one is often comforted by the strange happenings that can follow, sourceless smells that remind them of the departed, a feeling that they are still around watching and looking out for those left behind, strange dreams that comfort and re-assure that death is not the end.
The love that is the person who has passed through the 'door' called death is not always ready to communicate yet. As 'there is no concept of time in the spirit world' this could take ages in earth time, upsetting as this is to those left behind, some departed spirits need to go to what are called halls of healing to recover for a period of time after what may have been a traumatic life or death experience on the earth plane.
When we get to the spirit world ourselves we will have a better understanding of all this, until then life goes on, we have to be brave and know that loved ones have gone to a better place free of pain and suffering and that love never dies.
Spirituality
Much has been written about the subject of spirituality and the following is my own interpretation based on my experience. In the fast paced information age we live in people are searching for the meaning of life and trying to make sense of the world and all its troubles. The awareness of the population has increased especially over the last fifty years, seekers the world over such as you and myself are beginning to explore other possibilities when the material world is found to be lacking and without much substance.People are abandoning organised religion in droves because of their own growing knowledge, general dissatisfaction with the status quo and the information that has come to light regarding the manmade dogma which was created to control the masses. I firmly believe your church is where you are and you don't need to be dictated to or follow creeds that do not ring true. Each person is entitled to their own opinion and should follow their own star wherever it may lead them, we all want truth especially from our elected representatives and when we are let down disenchantment must surely follow.
Something other than
People are waking up to the fact that there is 'something other than' which cannot be defined or does not quite fit into acceptable standards of circumstance. Anyone who has lost a loved one or someone very dear to them can be convinced that the departed are is still present in their lives. Hard to believe for the sceptics among us but spirit has a way of letting us know they are around and about us, and they can make contact in the oddest ways.
Smells as mentioned earlier also occur which remind us of loved ones with no apparent source, lavender is a very common smell which usually reminds us of grandparents along with the smell of tobacco, these are very common occurrences and there are other smells which we associate with those no longer with us.
Sounds
Music can sometimes be heard when the radio or stereo is turned off and the phone can ring with no-one on the line, there have been reports of deceased people actually talking to the living via the phone and leaving messages on answering machines. Spirit also have the ability to affect the electricity supply as it is by nature a vibration so lights can flicker and televisions can be switched on or off, if such a thing happens you can tell them to behave themselves because you are ultimately in control, usually spirit are trying to communicate only love to us and to reassure us of their continuing presence.
We Are Surrounded By Spirit
Mostly we feel the presence of loved ones often when we are thinking of them or looking at old photographs, a touch on the face or hair is very common but mainly we actually feel the presence of them which can be very comforting whilst we are grieving. It would do no harm to talk out loud to those we feel are near and although we may not 'hear' the answers to questions, they can be 'impressed' into our consciousness and more often than not the answer given to us that we would expect to receive whilst that soul was living in their earth body should not be dismissed as our own imagination. Spirit has the power to place thoughts in our heads especially when decisions or choices have to be made because they still care very much and would have been consulted if they were still living. You can ask questions of departed spirits and expect an answer, in order to take full advantage of this fact it is wise to remember that because spirit operate on a higher vibration of being, the answers may come in subtle ways for instance, paragraphs of print in books or newspapers may 'jump out at you' or a conversation overheard in real life or whilst watching television may fit just perfectly, another word to the wise would be to take the first answer as a given rather than analyse it out of all recognition as we are wont to do, and another thing, wait for the answer to the first question to your satisfaction before you ask the next. Patience as we know is one of this life's hardest lessons and if the answer to question one comes as you are asking question number three or four you can miss the point entirely and dismiss the whole experiment as a failure when you have not given it a proper chance.
Psychic Ability
Most people with psychic abilities become aware of the fact from an early age, other realise eventually after many deep and profound experiences. But sometimes, something triggers that awareness and most mediums I have talked to have a defining event or series of events in common. For me it was a culmination of events starting with losing my father, my business going through the hoop therefore losing my house which lead eventually to my third divorce, all this in a very short span of time, Having had a nervous breakdown after my first marriage I did not want to go through all that again, I believe I was guided to seek out a clairvoyant and chose Grace who I've mentioned before. Mediums I have spoken to state the death of a loved one or some traumatic life changing event triggered their own awakening, for me I must have really needed a loud wake up call considering all that happened to me in a short space of time. Most mediums state that being a medium is not an easy path to take but qualify that statement by saying they wouldn't have it any other way. All mediums come to the knowledge after serving an apprenticeship of sorts where they learn the value of patience, which after all is one of life's hardest lessons in our have it now, pay later society, spiritual knowledge does not work like that, we all develop at a pace that suits our own individual needs, dictated by our own soul. Where the conscious mind is impatient and insistent, our soul energy knows what we can handle in the way of light energy, knowledge, understanding, call it what you will. There are many who have tried to take short cuts using magic mushrooms, hallucinogens, dabbling with forces they do not understand who have paid the price with their sanity.
If you believe or know that you have psychic ability I would advise you to seek guidance from those with experience on how to deal with it, any spiritualist church would or should welcome such enquiries or you could do as I did and seek a private reading from a clairvoyant.

Clairvoyance literally means clear seeing and uses what is known as the 'sixth sense' or psychic ability of the medium or clairvoyant. some psychics see with their eyes open, I usually close mine and see images and symbols which, when I let go and trust spirit the interpretation just flows and the message comes which could be a personal message from a departed loved one or advice and guidance on current issues. You never know who or what will come through but it is usually what you need in the here and now rather than what you imagine you want. As much as most people would like to contact a particular person this is not always possible, beware any psychic who tells you differently. Psychic ability is a privilege, a gift and should only used for good and not be abused, you may have heard of karma and the fact that what goes around comes around, using this ability for personal gain always backfires in my experience.

You hear whispers coming from the next room when no-one is there or voices and conversations in your head (no you are not going insane).
Colours become more intense, especially in natural surroundings, trees, grass and flowers seem to zoom toward you.
You feel light-headed during the day, you think you could float at times, sometimes you feel as if you are having out of body experiences in your sleep state.
People remark that you are somewhere else and there is something different about you which they cannot define.
You emotions and attachments take on new perspectives, you may feel like breaking away as what used to satisfy no longer does, you become detached from reality as you did perceive it, and 'something' is pulling you another way.
You become jumpy and startle easily where before you were cool calm and collected.
The sky has an increasing fascination for you, especially at night, moon and stars and daytime rainbows.
You become drawn to books on subjects you previously wouldn't have given the time of day to, like alternative lifestyles and therapies.
