The Effectiveness of Public Speaking Hypnosis

They say that public speaking is most people's greatest fear -- even above dying! But whether it is pleasant or not, sometimes it is necessary to stand and speak in front of an audience--that's why many people turn to public speaking hypnosis as a way of calming their fears of speaking to a crowd.

No matter who you are, sooner or later you're going to be required to speak to a group of people. It could be at a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday party, a business meeting, a seminar or school project, but sooner or later it WILL happen. The only question is, will you be terrified at the prospect of speaking to an audience, or will you calmly enjoy the experience?

Now, if the idea of "calmly enjoying" speaking to a group of people sounds absurd to you, then you are probably one of the millions of people around the world who suffer with a fear of public speaking. Hypnosis is often used to change an individual's perspective about a problem or situation, and experts agree that it can be very valuable in overcoming a fear of public speaking.

Many people have misconceptions about hypnosis. For example, some people think that they will be completely under the hypnotist's control when they are hypnotized. The truth is, most people remain alert when hypnotized and can not be made to do or think anything they truly do not want to do or think.

Another common misconception is that when hypnotized you will be in a deep sleep. The reality is that very few people fall asleep when hypnotized -- most remain in a calm but alert state, and continue to be aware of things going on around them.

When working with a hypnotherapist, you will find that the practitioner will often just speak to you in a calm and relaxing voice, perhaps offering a few subtle suggestions in the conversation. You are NOT likely to see the therapist pullout a gold pocket watch and ask you to gaze at it intently! Although that sort of thing might be funny to watch in the movies, it is not at all the way most hypnotherapy sessions work in real life.

If you'd like to try public speaking hypnosis, one option is to make an appointment with a certified hypnotherapist in your area. The advantage of this option is that you will receive personal attention by the therapist, who can tailor the hypnotherapy sessions to your exact situation. The downside, of course, is that hypnotherapy tends to be expensive, and it can sometimes require many sessions in order to completely eliminate your fear of public speaking.

Another alternative is to purchase public speaking hypnosis CDs or MP3s created by a licensed hypnotherapist. This alternative also has its pros and cons. For example, using hypnosis MP3s doesn't give you the same personal experience as working with a therapist one-on-one.

But there are also many advantages of using these pre-recorded audio hypnosis sessions. For one thing, they are much less expensive than paying for several weeks or even months of personal hypnotherapy office visits. They also have the benefit of being available whenever you are ready for a session, and with the new downloadable hypnosis sessions available online, you can get started within minutes of purchasing the product.

What You Can Expect from Public Speaking Hypnosis

Every hypnotherapist has their own unique style of "induction," and their own way of approaching public speaking hypnosis. Whether it you use hypnosis MP3s or CDs, or set up office visits with a local hypnotherapist, you will find that they each have their own unique way of relaxing the client and bringing on the state of hypnosis.

Commonly, a therapist may begin by asking you to concentrate on your breathing, and take several long, relaxing breaths. From there, some practitioners will ask you to focus on a specific area of your body, and relax that area as much as possible. They may then proceed to expand on this concept until you have relaxed your entire body and you are feeling comfortable and perhaps a bit sleepy.

The language that the hypnotherapist uses is very important, and this is especially true in public speaking hypnosis. At certain points, they may sound like they are just casually speaking to you about how you feel, when in reality they are choosing the words they are using very carefully, in order to communicate directly with your subconscious and change your old patterns of thought regarding public speaking.

Usually, by the time the session is over the client feels refreshed and alert, and is hardly aware that they have participated in a hypnosis session at all. Only a few days after the hypnosis session will the clients normally begin to notice that they feel differently about public speaking. Hypnosis is a subtle art -- it is not always obvious how powerful this technique can be, but study after study has proven it to be effective at eliminating a wide variety of fears and phobias.

You are right about hypnosis - it is very effective in treating a fear of public speaking. I do prefer a one-on-one session, but find that recordings can also be effective. When making an appointment with a hypnotherapist, it's worth asking him or her to record your hypnosis so you can play it back between sessions.

Of course, if you don't have access to a reputable hypnotherapist, a mass-produced recording can be a good substitute.

Good lens.
