More Facts About The Company With The Big Payout
How Can They Give So Much Money Away?
The answer is because the company makes a huge amount of money from their direct marketing offers.
Publishers Clearing House is a limited liability company staffed by over 400 employees and is headquartered in Port Washington, Long Island, NY the same town where the company founder Harold Mertz started it all from his garage. The company posted revenues of $530 MILLION dollars in 2006.

Is The PCH Sweepstakes A Scam?
Obviously, such a huge company with such a large sweepstakes payout is going to draw some scrutiny from the public and government officials. In an effort to combat this problem, PCH has as number of smart company "education" programs that deal with fraud and information privacy. Here are some examples from PCH:
PCH is a member of the Federal Trade Commission's Partnership for Consumer Education. They have also been instrumental in helping state and federal authorities identify and prosecute sweepstakes scam artists, due in part to information consumers like you have provided.
Publishers Clearing House sends a non-promotional letter, once a year, to remind most active customers that no purchase is ever necessary in order to be eligible for any of our sweepstakes prizes.
Publishers Clearing House surveys our customer file on a regular basis to identify customers with unusually high order levels. These customers are then contacted to determine if they understand that no purchase is necessary, and they are asked if there are any problems with their purchases from us.
Representatives from Publishers Clearing House regularly meet with local community groups and senior centers to provide information and guidance about direct mail and sweepstakes.

in reply to yvonne gist- I GOT TO BELIEVE PCH IS A SCAM. ON NOVEMBER 2ND I GOT
A PHONE AT 10:30AM FROM A PERSON WHO SAID HE WAS A STAFF MEMBER OF PCH . HE DID NOT OR WOULD NOT GIVE HIS NAME OR PHONE NUMBER. HE SUGGESTED I TAKE A SEAT BECAUSE HE HAD SOME VERY GOOD NEWS FOR ME, I WAS ANA MORRIS IN FLORIDA. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS ME. HE APPARENTLY HAD MY CELL PHONE NUMBER AND AFEW OTHER FACT ABOUT ME. HE ASKED IF I WAS MARRIED AND IF I WAS A U.S.CITENZEN. I SAID YES TO BOTH QUESTIONS.
HE THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I HAD "WON" $500,000.00 FROM THE SWEETSTAKES. OF COURSE, I WAS OVER JOYED. HE ASKED ME IF I COULD BE AT
HOME(Giving me my address) ON WEDNESDAY BETWEEN 10:00AM AND 2:00PM FOR THE BANK CERTIFIED CHECK FOR $500,000.00 TO BE "SPECIAL DELIEVERED" TO ME
AT MY HOME. HE INDICATED THAT HE AND A TEAM FROM PCH WOULD COME TO MY
HOME AND PRESENT ME WITH THE CHECK. ON WEDNESDAY, MY HUSBAND AND I WAITED, BUT GUESS WHAT, NO PERSON, NO BODY,NOT EVEN FEDEX OR UPS SHOWED UP. SCAM? YES!

Wow I'm reminded that I'm not the only one who is praying for a miracle from God each day. We just need to make sure we don't put life on hold while we are waiting. All About Sweepstakes
In the United States consumer sales promotions known as sweepstakes or simply sweeps (both single and plural) have become associated with marketing promotions targeted toward both generating enthusiasm and providing incentive reactions among customers by enticing consumers to submit free entries into drawings of chance (and not skill) that are tied to product or service awareness wherein the featured prizes are given away by sponsoring companies. Prizes can vary in value from less than one dollar to more than one million U.S. dollars and can be in the form of cash, cars, homes, electronics, etc.
Sweepstakes frequently have eligibility limited by international, national, state, local, or other geographical factors.
Sweepstakes are often referred by marketing promoters as second-chance sweepstakes when utilized in conjunction with the awarding of unclaimed prizes during instant-win promotions.
