Make Your Own Notebook Pages

Ranked #6,025 in Education, #135,243 overall

Notebooking template pages are easy to create with a little computer knowledge and a few of these extras. Don't let the process intimidate you. Most makers of "professional" notebook pages started out just like you and learned by trial and error. Your kids probably won't notice your mistakes anyway. They'll just be impressed that their new notebook pages were designed by their own mom!

Programs For Desktop Publishing

Notebook pages and lapbook templates can be made in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, or any other desktop publishing program. I have even created some using Microsoft Paint.

My "tool of choice" for creating printables for our homeschool is PagesPlus. You can download a free version of this online. It doesn't have quite as many features as the for sale version, but it has everything you will need. It even has a tutorial that shows you all the neat things it can do.

No Software?

Most computers have some form of desktop publishing software already installed. If your computer doesn't have a program you can use, PagesPlus is available for free online.

Clipart

You can find many free sources of pubic domain and educational use clipart on the internet. Just remember to read the terms of use to be sure you are not violating any copyrights.

These wonderful high quality images are great for making your own notebook pages.

Want To Share?

Make your notebook pages easier to share by converting them to PDF documents. Primo PDF is one of several free PDF converters available as a free download. After installing, you will be able to turn any document into a PDF just by "printing" it!

Puzzles and Mazes

You may also want to add a few crossword puzzles, word finds, or mazes to your notebook pages. Discovery School has a free puzzlemaker which is great for this sort of thing.

Why Puzzles?

An occational crossword puzzle provides a nice break to traditional narrations and is a great way to review what has been taught. Consider it a quiz without all the moaning and groaning!

Decorative Fonts

If you want to add titles to your pages, you may want to try out a few new fonts. Fonts For Kids has some really fun fonts that you can download for free. You could probably find more sites like this if you did a search. Once again, be sure to check the terms of use as some fonts are under copyright.
