It's a Pug Thing
After a long day at work, my pug is waiting at the door, wagging her little spiral tail, jumping for joy to see me--nothing compares to that cute little face and those bugged out eyes looking at me with pure love!
Maybe a pug is what you need to brighten your day. Maybe you already have a pug and know just what I am talking about.
I have compiled some funny little pug facts here just for fun. There are also some great pug related products for your favorite pug or pug lover. If you are looking to get a pug, preview some pug care basics and books before you adopt.
Why Love a Pug?
- They're funny looking
- For a small dog, they are pretty durable
- Pugs aren't "yappy" --they don't bark alot
- They are great guard dogs--they'll tell the big dog when to attack!
- Pugs are SUPER affectionate and good with kids and visitors, not ankle biters
- They snore just loud enough to be cute, not annoying
- Pugs are FULL of personality and tenacity--not a boring dog by any means
- The pug tongue is HUGE, like the 8th wonder when you watch a pug stick their tongue out-you just have to see it in action to understand
- A pug is content just to be with you, preferably sitting in your lap
- A pug is NOT a picky eater, in fact will do ANYTHING for food
- Pugs don't require a lot of exercise

Like any pet, a pug has special needs.Pugs are short-snouted, so they can't self-regulate their temperature, that means they aren't outside dogs.
My sweet little girl sheds all-year-round--easily handled with a weekly brushing.
I learned this one the hard way-small dogs need to have their anal glands extracted by you or a groomer, if not, it's bad, trust me.
Any short-snouted dog needs special attention, as their airways are also short and thin, making them prone to nasal issues-airways are important to examine when you are choosing your little companion.
When I wash my puggy, I make sure to get into all the little wrinkly areas-bathing early on and about once a month keeps puggy free from any skin infections and smelling pretty.

A good set of nail clippers are a must for all small dogs. When my pug sounds like she is wearing tap shoes, I know it is time for a trim. If you have the luxury to do so, find a good groomer and get nails trimmed and anal glands drained at the same time.

Cutie pug loves just about any small plush toy she can get her mouth around. She loves to shake it around and play tug of war. She really is not too fond of any hard toys or balls to chase-that would require too much work!

Number one on the pugs "gotta have" list is a good comfy bed. Pugs love nap time and will curl up with you or in a nice bed like this one. My pug's bed is very similar and it is washable and she just loves to peek over the side at me as she falls asleep.

- Pugs are the most angelic creature on earth. I think anyone who wants to experience unconditional love, should have a pug.
I recently rescued a sweet little girl, and she has been a joy. 2 yrs ago my little man Vito passed away at 13, I had brought him home at 5 weeks in my purse when his mom pushed him away. I never thought Id be able to let another Pug in my heart, but this little girl is very sweet.
I thank God for Pugs everyday.
