Pulsatile Tinnitus - Do You Have It?

Do you know that there are two types of tinnitus? Yes there is the non-pulsatile tinnitus which is the most common type and the other type which is the pulsatile tinnitus. This type is not so common and unlike the non-pulsatile tinnitus where the ear ringing cannot be heard by other people, if you have this type of tinnitus, other people will be able to hear your ringing in the ears.

The characteristic of the ear ringing for this type of tinnitus is in a pulsing manner that is why it is referred to as pulsatile tinnitus. This pulsing noise can be in rhythm with your heartbeat. It is said that the pulsing motion felt and heard in the ears can result from the abnormal flow of blood in the blood vessels. In this case, a problem in the circulatory system is present.

Circulatory problems which may cause a block in the arteries and blood vessels are identified as the cause of this tinnitus. Hypertension, atherosclerosis, abnormalities in the capillary and narrowed veins are some of the identified causes of this type of tinnitus. The pulsing motion and noise may be eliminated as the blood clots in the blood vessels are given attention and smooth blood flow is restored.

This type of tinnitus is however easier to treat as compared to the non-pulsatile tinnitus wherein most causes can be difficult to identify. As it has always been said, tinnitus is a symptom and therefore treatment should be based on what caused it.

Levels of cholesterol should be lowered as this can cause the build-up of plaque in the blood vessels which can affect interrupt the flow of blood at some areas of the blood vessel and cause a sudden gush of blood as it flows from a constricted part of the vessel to a non-constricted part.

It is very easy to avoid pulsatile tinnitus. Regular exercise helps in promoting the proper flow of blood. Taking a low cholesterol diet and living a healthy lifestyle - not smoking and not drinking alcohol can help in preventing and eliminating problems with the blood vessels.
