Punk Baby Clothes

Most baby clothes available in the mainstream market just don't have the coolness that the younger generation is after. The larger retail chain stores typically sell very ordinary and cheesy infant styles. There is no lack of happy little ships, footballs, and fairies. For some this is "oh so cute". For others this is painfully "yuck". A trip to the mall typically yields a pathetic selection of baby garments that look the same as they did back in the seventies. Somehow these retail giants just don't understand. Infant clothing has remained virtually unchanged in the mainstream market for the past thirty years.

I attended a baby and kids trade show a couple years ago. I was floored by how typical and yucky all the clothes were. The vast majority of the kids stuff wes pastels, flowers, footballs, and "go team!". Why is this you ask? I'll tell you why. They buyers for large chain stores and the reps selling the stuff are so out of touch. You should see these old farts! I'm sure they did a great job back in 1979, but seriously... can we get some young people who have a sense of style involved? Until this happens... the song will remain the same.

Thanks to the internet, and young people with style, we now have an excellent selection of hip and trendy styles for our kids. Punk baby clothes are one of these unique styles or sub-niches of clothing that is now available on the internet. It's easy to find punk style gift sets with skull onesies, cute little rock bibs, and even tattoo styled baby blankets. This is exactly what today's young adults are after for their new families. I honestly believe within ten years the majority of shopping will occur online. The main reason is because you have a much better selection and no retail overhead to raise prices.

What are "punk baby clothes" exactly? The punk baby clothes of today have very little to do with the original "punk" movement back in the seventies. I think more than anything the baby clothes in this genre somewhat reflect the styles. With mostly black baby items, some with skulls, some with stripes, they loosely resemble the garments of that classic defiant group. Regardless of their roots, punk baby clothing is making a large mark on the infant and toddler clothing industry. There is no denying the coolness of a cute little skull on a baby onesie.
