Cupcakes for Pups?

Pupcake cupcakes, pupcake cupcakes, pupcake cupcakes! Bet you can't say that fast three times! It's okay, I can't say it fast either! Of course, I'm a dog. It's hard to say anything with that big canine tongue. See, take a look over to the picture on the right. That's me! My name is Angel and I am a Squiddog lensmaster. What are you snickering about? This is my 4th lens I've written with my mommy's help!

All those delicious sounding cupcakes on the cupcake club! Don't you just want to wolf down a few dozen? I do! My mommy says that wouldn't be very healthful to me, so I sniffed around the web a bit to find doggy treats for my family to bake, and wanted to share them with you!

Pupcakes ~ Dog's Favorite Cupcakes!

You will need your human family's help with this!

Pupcake Ingredients:
1 large apple
1 1/2 cups wheat flour
1/4 cup oatmeal
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons honey
2 eggs
1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Frosting Ingredients:
8 oz Neufchatel Cheese (lowfat cream cheese)
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
2-3 tablespoons flour

What to Do:
Ask your human to preheat the oven for you to 400 ° F and lightly grease your muffin pans. You may want your human to help you measure a few of the items, also.

After coring and slicing the apple, mince it in a food processor or blender and set aside. In a big bowl, combine the flour, oatmeal, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix the five wet ingredients together in a slightly smaller bowl thoroughly; then add the apple and cheese. Pour the wet mixture into the flour bowl and stir completely.

Fill each muffin cup three-fourths full then bake for about 20 minutes. If you can't get all of the mixture out of the bowl, just use your canine tongue - it makes a great spatula!

Don't forget to put your oven mitts over your paws before pulling the baking pan out of the oven. Let the pupcakes cool for a couple minutes before removing them from the pan.

While they are cooling, make your frosting by combining the cream cheese, honey, and yogurt until creamy. Add a little flour until it is the thickness you desire. Spread icing on nice and thick and decorate with a small doggie bone on top!

Homemade Doggie Treat Do & Don't List

Keep your canine happy and healthy!

Feel free to alter the recipe above to include your favorite flavors! And watch out, your human family may want to take a bite of these goodies!! When substituting ingredients though, keep in mind that some foods which humans like are unsafe for us dogs and can be harmful. Ingredients not to put into doggie treats include grapes & raisins (we could choke), onions (we don't want to lose our natural doggie breath scent), and chocolate & artificial sweeteners (not good for us).

Ingredients that are healthy for canines are cooked meats and poultry, cooked eggs, cultured dairy items like yogurt, buttermilk, and cheese, complex carbohydrates like rice, potatoes, and beans, and natural sources of fiber from bran, whole-grains, and veggies!
