Hand puppets, sock puppets, finger puppets... it doesn't matter, they all make us smile (and forget about the 'real' world for a while).
This lens is dedicated to this magic. And we will explore the additional magic that occurs as we create our own puppet friends, and then make them come alive... right in our own hands!
If you feel "too mature" to be caught making your own puppets, then grab the nearest child, and use them as your excuse. ;-)

How To Make A Puppet.
Puppets are people, too!
I get the feeling that children are natural puppeteers.Every child naturally has an imagination that can make the simplest of items turn into castle or a weapon or a time machine. Often in a blink of an eye.
So, as we explore the creation of puppets, either for the presentation to children, or for their own productions, we needn't get too extravagant with our design.
Sure, there is 'art' in the design and craftsmanship of many puppets of the past, but this beauty is not the end product. Quite often the most loved puppets are the handcrafted folk dolls used by native peoples many years ago.
As we look at the ancient Native American, or Egyptian, or Turkish puppets used by storytellers and shaman of old, we don't see fine craftsmanship. What we do see often is the character and life breathed into these items that made them come alive.
So, today's children need, more than ever, some life breathed into them, and also to breathe some of themselves into modern 'little people' of their own.
Sounds better than playing the video game all day, doesn't it?

- We sometimes use homemade paper shadow puppets in our homeschool co-op, as well as in the children's room at church. It's so much fun to make them! Puppets have been a favorite of mine my whole life though! I enjoyed your lens! 5's.
