An overview of the Puppy Playpen
In recent times lots of dog owners have been looking to Puppy Pens as a solution to the problem of where to put their pet when they need to leave them for a minute or so, and the solution has been found with a Puppy Playpen.
the Puppy Playpen
Puppy Playpens can be used as a safe haven for your new family member lots of people get a puppy without realising the amount of dedication they need, and sometimes it is necessary to put your beloved pet somewhere while you are need to do something quickly like a quick iron of the washing or maybe you have guests coming and need somewhere to put your pet so he or she is out of harm's way for a while a puppy playpen or cage is the perfect solution for lots of people. You don't have to worry about the dog chewing the doors and getting into general mischief while you are away for a short while.
They are constructed a bit like a box four sides and a top normally made out of metal bars although recently people are moving towards the padded pens that are a bit more comfortable than the standard pen, it isn't absolutely essential because you can just put a duvet down with a pillow or just a few blankets just to make your pets stay in the puppy pen that bit more comfortable and to add a bit of enjoyment for him or her you could always add a few toys just to keep him occupied with his time in there.
If you don't add toys and other stimulation like chew sticks to the puppy pen there is a high chance your pet will have enough and attempt an escape, if he decides he doesn't like sitting in his cadge board the odds are he will try his best to get out by chewing clawing or even a bit of a jump over the edge if the pen you brought doesn't have a top. One way to stop the chewing could be to add some kind of detergent that tastes nasty this would stop those jaws chomping on the sides no puppy enjoys foul tasting plastic no matter how much they want to escape their puppy pen.

An alternative to Puppy Pens
If you don't want to use Puppy Playpens then you could always go down the baby gate route, this way you can control you puppy to a certain room so for example if you are trying to watch TV and your dog is being a bit boisterous and jumping around wanting to play or even pacing up and down you can put them in the next room and close the gate this way your dog can still see you so won't get nervous or distressed and you will be able to keep an eye on him but you won't have the annoyance of him pacing or getting hyperactive. Don't forget to let you pet out for regular breaks otherwise there may be an accident, it's probably not a good idea to always keep your dog out in the other room or use closing the gate as a punishment because this would give the puppy the wrong kind of discipline meaning he or she would see the gate as a negative object making it harder to put them the other side of it.
The same applies with a Puppy Pen try not to use it as a punishment or discipline tool it should represent somewhere peaceful and safe for your dog not somewhere to be hated in the long run this could make it harder to train your puppy and make the dog dislike the pen which is the opposite to what you probably intended when you brought it.
