Puppy Potty Training
Puppy Potty Training
Not As Easy As I Thought It Would Be
Big mistake! Puppies are really a lot like small children, they need to learn proper behaviors or they will develop bad behaviors that will be very difficult to undo. I learned this the hard way. I checked out some dog training web sites and picked up some free information on puppy potty training. It seemed simple enough and I set to work trying to train our new puppy to relieve himself outside.
Turns out I didn't have all the right information. The puppy just didn't seem to "get it". He kept having accidents on my living room carpeting and I was getting more and more frustrated. The tips I had read about seemed simple enough, so I couldn't understand why they weren't working. I wanted to be bonding with our new dog, but instead I was just feeling angry at him every time I found one of his little messes on my carpet.
I started to wonder whether I had made a mistake in getting this new puppy. If I was having so much trouble with puppy potty training, how was I ever going to teach him specific commands, tricks or help him to avoid behavior problems, such as aggression, biting, jumping or barking. I was discussing my troubles with my best friend and to my surprise, she told me about a dog training guide that was wildly popular and known for it's effective training techniques.
At this point I had already wasted time and money and I was extremely aggravated. Actually, I was mostly mad at myself for not being more prepared. I was obviously making major mistakes in my puppy's potty training and didn't even know it. So I purchased the puppy potty training guide that was recommended, and read it cover to cover that night.
The e-book is called Sit, Stay, Fetch, and after reading it I realized how much time I had wasted by not getting it sooner.
Puppy Potty Training - Accidents Happen
What To Do About Dog Urine Odor
Well, I found out soon enough. Puppies are alot like toddlers that are potty training, which means there are bound to be accidents. And if you have carpeting, those accidents can cause a stink you don't want to know about.
I figured there had to be lots of cleaning products which could take care of the urine odor should an accident occur, but I found out that quantity doesn't equal quality. I tried product after product, and some seemed to work at first, but eventually that nasty urine smell came back.
So after getting very frustrated, I decided to do some research and eventually I discovered a simple recipe that can be made with household ingredients. This turned out to be a far better dog urine remover than any of the expensive products I tried.
It can be made cheaply and easily with ingredients you probably have or can easily purchase. You'll never again buy an expensive cleaning product that claims to remove dog urine odor. This dog urine remover recipe will do the job right.
Some Simple Puppy Potty Training Tips
1. Be Consistent - training is a constant practice and must be predictable for the dog. That means using the same exact words, and techniques over and over again.
2. Be Patient - Although the process can be frustrating, you need to stay calm and take it slowly.
3. Work With Your Dog, Not Against Him - Remember you are working towards a common goal, do not let frustration turn you against your dog.
4. Be Open To New Techniques - If something isn't working, be open to trying a new approach.
5. Try To Have Fun - If you think of training as a chore, it will be. Try to make it more of a fun project and a way to bond with your dog.
Of course, the e-book goes into much more detail, but these are a few basic tips.
