There is no better way to express your vow or commitment for purity than with having or wearing purity rings. Because of popular young celebrities like the Jonas Brothers sporting and making statements with their rings, more and more young people are getting into the bandwagon. A good majority of teenagers and young adults are now making a vow to remain pure by showcasing their rings.

Purity Rings

Another name for this type of ring is the chastity ring or the promise ring. They are usually engraved with sayings that help encourage and remind the wearer of the commitment the he made. Sayings like, "True Love Waits," and "One Life One Love," are the usual engravings. The whole practice of wearing purity rings came about in the 1990's. It was used as a way to discourage young people from premarital sex. Even after two decades have passed, purity or chastity rings are still well known and used.

More often than now, promise rings are worn in the left hand around the ring finger by an individual who has made a commitment to stay a virgin until they are married. Another popular way of wearing them is by using them as a necklace around the neck. Even though the movies and society reflect otherwise, purity rings and the concept of staying pure is becoming more popular. Teens who want to be different and are not afraid to remain celibate until marriage will find that wearing purity rings will express their opinions clearly. This will mark their difference with their peers, those who just give into promiscuity without much thought.

Made specifically for both men and women, purity rings are a great way to showcase ones commitment to celibacy until marriage. Upon first hearing the term "purity ring," the first idea that comes to mind would be abstinence from sex, however, there are other kinds of purity or promise rings.

Some women and men, who were sexually active at a young age, opt to wear a purity ring to signify a "second virginity" promise. Most of them use this to remind themselves that they did once cross the mark, now they want to set it right and wait for the right person. It may not be possible to change what a person has done in the past, but it is possible to pick up the pieces and start again.

Another kind of promise ring is one worn to signify abstinence from substance abuse or drugs. People who have suffered from bouts of alcoholism or drug issues wear these rings to remind themselves to be sober and to keep away from instances that might temp them to go back to their problems. It's not just alcohol and drugs, it could be any other addicting habit like gambling or food addiction and other sexual addictions that individuals are facing.

Purity rings are certainly making a comeback. Whatever reason a person may choose when deciding to wear one, it is still welcome news. As long as the intentions are pure and sincere, purity rings can definitely help any individual overcome any hurdles they may have, even if the rest of the world is against them.
