Purple Star Day 2010 Celebration Commemoration

April 16th 2010 marked the one year anniversary of the date that the very first Purple Stars were given out here at Squidoo.com.

Megan Casey our editor in chief officially named the day, Purple Star Day and made it a Squidoo holiday.

This lens contains all of the celebration festivities that took place on Purple Star Day (in the order that they occurred) including a complete list of the very first lenses that were awarded Purple Stars, a complete list of all of the non-giant Purple Star lenses that were awarded on Purple Star Day, our Purple Star Day King/Queen for a Week Winner and all of the lenses they awarded, AND a complete accounting of every Purple Star lens that was tweeted from the Lens of the Day Twitter account in celebration of Purple Star Day.

The First Purple Stars EVER!

List of the first Purple Stars Awarded on 4/16/2009

The very first Purple Stars were awarded on April 16, 2009 during a special chat session we held with members of the 100 Club. Everyone in attendance was surprised with a Purple Star during the chat.

Non-Giant Purple Stars Awarded On Purple Star Day

On April 16, 2010 the Giant Squid lensmasters were given a secret mission at the Giant Squids Only Secret Tips Blog. They were asked to nominate one non-giant Purple Star worthy lens each. Every single lens that was nominated received a Purple Star.

Purple Star Day Celebration

To further celebrate the anniversary of the first Purple Stars, on April 16, 2010, we tweeted more than 100 of our favorite Purple Star lenses by way of the @LensoftheDay Twitter account.

The owner of the lens that got retweeted the most times on Purple Star Day won the honor of being our Purple Star King/Queen of the week and got to choose all of the following week's Purple Star lenses, regardless of Giant Squid status.

What an amazing selection of lenses here! Loved Purple Star Day and the chance to nominate non-Giants to receive purple stars -- that certainly spread a lot of happiness. I thought this was an excellent promotional activity of the Purple Star Program and its anniversary. It was fun watching the lens come onto Twitter, and I had to open an extra browser just to RT :) Robin- thank you for those (I think it was 12 hours) you spent tweeting these lenses, and thank you for choosing my Owl one too :)

Thank you for all that you do. Picking purple stars isn't an easy task because there are so many purple star worthy lenses around. I am so honored to have a purple star on my favorite lens and for it to receive the great honor of being retweeted the most when it was going up against the best lenses squidoo has to offer. Giving out purple stars was kind of addicting :)
