Purple Star Twisters
Ranked #6,099 in Squidoo Community, #383,781 overall
The contest has closed but you can still have fun being creative...
OK. I know you must be wondering what is going through my mind with such a title as this. Am I correct? That's OK; you're forgiven. :)
This whole idea came forth as a result of a discussion with the RocketMoms on Friday, March 19, 2010.
I won't go into great detail about our conversation; however, I can give credit to Joan4 for stirring my imagination. It's amazing what a little slip of the tongue or, in this case, finger can do!
Initially, I was wondering whether I should change my first purple star lens a little bit so it wouldn't be so long. This is what Joan had to say: "Leave the purple star purple star alone." My immediate response was this: "Joan, are you trying to create a tongue twister?" :))))
A few seconds later I came up with an idea for this lens and Joan, God bless her soul, gave me another idea which I shall most surely include!
What neither of the RocketMoms know is ...oops! I can't tell you yet! I'm sorry; I almost told everyone my secret! (Gasp!) However, you will like it and that's all I can say for now.
I think you've heard just about enough from me now so I'll soon be ready to turn the lens over to you.
Oh, one more thing: if you happen to notice a few Squid characters hanging around here, don't mind them! They're just here because they want to see what all the excitement is about. They are actually creations of Steve Thompson and the lens just wouldn't be the same without them. Don't you agree?
Purple Squids on Zazzle
Squid Personalities
No two people are identical; it's the same with the members of the Squid family.
Disco Squid gets so excited he can begin dancing at the slightest provocation. He really enjoys all the attention Norma has been giving him lately and considers it an honor to be present among so many Purple Squids.
Purple Squid - poor thing; he's still adjusting to his drastic change in appearance. He does his best and all Norma does, in return, is to make him unrecognizable, even to himself.
Injured Squid cannot tolerate when people gripe and complain; after all, in many cases, he wishes he could be in another squid's tentacles. However, instead of giving up, he perseveres - even in the face of adversity.
A most serious newsflash!
If you came here looking to read something serious,
it is time to say, "Good-bye."
“You're still here!
Oh, we are so excited!
We, the Squid family,
want you to make us laugh!”
Gulp!

I bet you're wondering what the Squid family wants from you. I have a feeling you'll soon find out; I'm surprised they haven't revealed their motives yet.
Whatever it is they are planning, I have a feeling they will be disappointed if you don't participate.
I'm sure they would never hurt you but, strangely enough, accidents have been known to happen; we have yet to learn what really happened here but it doesn't look very good at all.
Gone Fishing

"I'm one of the most serious members of the Squid family. Sometimes I like to go fishing to get way from all the nonsense. I must say that I enjoy laughing with them but there comes a time when I really need to get away and think for a while. I'm sure you can identify with that, can't you?
I like to fish the mountain streams and rivers, preferably at first light, or when the sun is setting. It fills me with a wonderful sense of peace and awe; it's unlike any other experience, for me.
The sun will be setting within the next hour so I'm going to get my fishing rod and reel, then immerse myself in reflection for a while.
Oh, I'm sorry! I almost forgot! Disco Squid wants you to keep him dancing, Purple Squid wants you to help him take his mind off his troubles and Injured Squid wants you to give him a reason not to feel so overwhelmed."
The Moment Has Come
A message from the Squid family
We invited you here for another reason, too; we wanted to give you a break from all the thinking you've been doing. We wanted to make you laugh so your heart could feel merry and light.
We have a few things in mind; we do hope you participate so this can be a place where many people - not only Squids - can come to laugh. After all, laughter really is the best medicine and there's no way we can overdose.
So...this is what we propose:
-
Make up a riddle featuring the Giant/Purple Squids or Purple Stars. Write your question (Q) followed by your answer (A)."
Q. Why did the Giant Squid cross the road?
A. He saw the Purple Sea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
"Make up a 4 line poem featuring the Giant/Purple Squids or Purple Stars."
There was a Squid named Billy Ray,
Who liked to play throughout the day,
Until he fought and then he cried -
The purple star he was denied.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
"Make up a tongue twister. It has to include the phrase, Purple Star.
Hint: Use a lot of words beginning with the letter p."
Penelope partied passionately and precociously with the Purple Stars.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you up to the challenge?
We certainly hope so!
We hope you've had some entertainment, too!
A Squidrence Call
Though this lens will continue to be a place where you can have some fun, to promote this happening spot, the Squid family had a meeting of the minds.
They decided they wanted to sponsor a contest which would take place between March 22, 2010 - May 30, 2010.
There would be three winning entries - one in each category - and winners would be announced here - as well as notified directly - no later than June 07, 2010.
“The contest is
over now but
the winners
are:”
-
tagsforkids won in the joke/riddle category.
Steve submitted:
Q: How does a Giant Squid know they've won at the slot machines?
A: When they get 3 stars "per pull"... :)
-
LeanneChesser won in the 4-line poem category. She submitted:
Purple Squid, I hear, is shocked at his hue . . .
Could it be that he'd rather be green?
But I am proud to be called a "Purple Squid"
As coined by Norma, the queen.
-
bethd821 won in the tongue twister category. She submitted:
Perpetuation of passionate, pristine pages possible with Purple Stars.
- I've had the biggest smile on my face since I came on this lens. Cute!
Being a Squid is a lot of fun, but I've never played a slot machine yet.
If I ever do, I'll be sure to wear my Giant Squid t-shirt and get a picture!
I'd send it to you with love Norma!!! ~ Thanks for the fun lens.
- I've never played a slot machine either but that would be cool. I just love this lens so much...
Thankfully, it's not a contest-only lens because it can still be a place for us Squids to have fun...
- Here's one:
Purple stars are really quite rare - -
Only for the best of the best.
Giant Squid lenses that stand out from the crowd
Are the ones that will pass the test.
And another:
Purple Squid, I hear, is shocked at his hue . . .
Could it be that he'd rather be green?
But I am proud to be called a "Purple Squid"
As coined by Norma, the queen.
- The Purple Star Lady
Is weary and tired.
Go to sleep, Purple Squids
Unless you've retired.
Not to worry; this is not a contest entry. I just thought I'd create a little poem.
I guess I'll suffer mental scars
for I can not become a Giant,
my Squidoo lens count's not compliant! :)
- Wow! That one is hard enough to read the first time around; I couldn't imagine being successful with this one. I mean, Peter Piper picked a peck of purple pickled peppers is a breeze, in comparison. :)
- I have come up with 3 tongue twisters:
1. Perpetuation of passionate, pristine pages possible with Purple Stars.
2. Purple star passions produced per Purple Star protocols.
3. Picking Purple Star quality perplexing to prominent Purple Star Pickers, proving passion, persistence, and powerful persuasion prevail.
