The Purple Star Program on Squidoo

What is a purple star? (And why you might want one)

Purple Stars are fairy dust. They're magic. They're surprises. They're trophies celebrating authentic, original, fantastic content on Squidoo. They're given out by our editors and community organizers, whenever they find a lens that makes them smile. You'll never know when or where a purple star will arrive--but you'll get a special email if you're bestowed with one.

Bonnie and Robin, your hardworking community champions, will dust standout lenses, both new and old, at any time of the day or night, with purple stars. Masterpiece lenses. Lenses making a name for themselves. Lenses trying new things.

The best way to get picked is to get yourself noticed for your incredible content, for trying new ideas and modules, for running conversations on your lenses, for standing out from the crowd. Do that enough, and the purple star fairy will find you.

P.S. Now with a brand new Purple Star Quest!

Here's how it works: the short version

All lensmasters are eligible.

If you win a purple star by creating a remarkable lens...

You get en email letting you know.
You get a small onetime LensRank boost. It doesn't fade.
And a big new purple star trophy on your Awards page.
And access to a special Purple Star Quest.
And an awful lot of bragging rights.
And a pretty little star on your winning lens. (99% of the time. There are a few rare exceptions).

It's that simple.

How it works: the longer answer

the ins and outs and overs and unders

There is no more longer answer. This is sweet and easy. Write original, authentic, great content and you might just hit our radars for purple goodness.

Keep creating and innovating and exploring and learning

That's the real point, the whole point.

Purple Star Quests

The NEW way to nominate a stellar lens!

From now on, whenever you receive a purple star, you will also be sent on a purple star SquidQuest.

Each quest will give you the chance to nominate ONE fellow lensmaster's lens for a purple star. No fair nominating your own lens for a purple star, you just got one. This is your chance to pass the goodwill forward and share the happiness.

Don't worry, there's no pressure. Your purple star is yours to keep whether you decide to take that quest or not but keep in mind that quests are monster fun and there's always a reward for doing one.

With this new community based system in place, we will no longer be accepting nominations at the purplestar email address.

You asked: Why not give purple stars to everyone?

We heard you and we've changed things up

We used to give purple stars only to Giants. Then Giants started nominating other, non-Giant lenses for purple stars. And they wanted to pay it forward.

Over the months we received numerous nominations for purple star worthy lenses not made by Giants that we had to turn away. Boo.

So! Now lensmasters who've created even just one lens are eligible and able to receive a purple star for their efforts (if it's really stinking good, that is! :)

Of course our Giants are still eligible too. Everyone means everyone.

They just need to earn it.

Purple Stars on "Squidoo Magazine" Lenses?

How will I know if I got one?

Lenses included in the new Squidoo magazines, (such as GoodVeg) are absolutely eligible to be nominated for and receive purple stars!

You will receive all the goodies that accompany the purple star, including a note informing you of your new prestigious award, the LensRank boost that goes with it, and a purple star trophy on your Awards page, if you haven't gotten one already. There is, was and always will be, only one purple star trophy per lensmaster page.

The only difference for Magazine participating lenses is that the little purple star won't show directly on the winning lens itself. But you'll still have all the above, and the happy knowledge that you have been acknowledged for building something remarkable.

But be patient, one and all

We're only giving out about 1,000 purple star lenses a year! They're scarce and special.
