Push up bras for young girls - Naughty or nice?

While watching Good Morning America recently, an expose on push up bras for young girls appeared. Now, as I peered over my first cup of coffee, I couldn't believe what I was seeing - a few cups runneth over (and I'm not talking about coffee). I was watching a 15 year old girl modeling a push up bra with a (get this) pushup level of Double WHOA. I mean, come on! Double WHOA? Who at 15 should be even wearing a single WHOA? I suppose a single WHOA is upping the bra cup size 1 level but a double WHOA takes a young girl's budding chest up two full levels (I wish I could bring mine down a few levels).

Isn't there enough pressure on young girls to look their best? When does a child's childhood end these days? All I can say is that I'm glad I'm a product of the '60s and was allowed to be a kid when being a kid was fun. Remember running around outside and playing? I'm afraid that 'playing' has taken on a new connotations today.

I'm including just one ad on this page for a push up bra for young girls and hope it gets clicks but no sales. I personally find the whole issue ridiculous. Let's see what you have to say.

Now, for those of you who grew up to be full figured women on your own (like i did...), here's a good article about Prima Donna bras for the full figured woman.

Picture is courtesy of Flickr.com. I'm praying I'm not supporting child pornography....

For what it's worth, here's a lens I wrote about Shatter Nail Polish - a perfectly nice way to dress up a girl's nails. Or, to slightly push the envelope, how about buying your teen girl a pair of sheer panty hose?

And, this lens was updated 9/1/11 when I found out that JC Penney had joined Abercrombie and Fitch in the sexualization of young girls. Scroll down to see the update on JC Penney's t-shirt which was recalled today....

Push up bra for young girls

This is actually not a push up bra for young girls but it does, reportedly "Bumpm' Up". Excuse me? A bra called 'Bump 'Em?' My bra should be called 'Hold 'em..."

I'm curious once again about your thoughts. Do you think that it's corporate America at blame or should the onus be on parents to keep their children from looking like tramps?

Raise your daughters right

With a little help from these books

Not everyone is a born Mother so almost everyone needs a reference book once in a while. The one thing you can be assured of is that, whatever problem you're facing with your teen girl, someone else has faced it and written a book about it. The below are good reads on raising girls.

Push up bras for young teens

We already know how I feel about the subject but how about you?

Updated 3/30/12: I find it interesting to note that the girls who voted 'Yes' in this poll are all teenagers. Ladies, you're beautiful as you are and, as to appearing older, don't rush things. There will be a day when you wish you looked younger.

Should young girls wear push up bras?

Loading

Yes, it's fine. They're just becoming women a bit younger than they used to.

Brooklyn says:

Yes but not too early of a teen. I wouldn't wear a pushup bra until I actually have REAL boobs to put in a bra. So I wouldn't wear one until I'm probably 15 or 16, but maybe sooner if need be. See I'm 13 and I wear 34 A and I would like a pushup bra but I'm not necessarily in need of one. So in conclusion yes young girls SHOULD wear pushup bras, but only if they NEED them. :))

Brooke ;) says:

I myself am a teenager. 13 to be specific. I'm only a 32a and I want to get a push up bra too. Although I'm not rushing to go out and buy one. A lot of girls my age feel very self conscious and just want to feel good about themselves. What's wrong with that? It would be how THEY feel, not you. Also, for the parents who disagree, why not make them pay for it themselves then? I have enough money to buy a good push up bra right now but I'm not rushing to go out and buy one either. Anyways, the main thing I'm trying to get out is that instead of judging us, put yourselves in our shoes. Thank you. :)

elenaa says:

yes cuz, they help younger girls to feel good about themselves or more older

No, it sucks.

nicky says:

Hell no! Not unless they need it. I m 12 n i know. Some girls im my class hav very big boobs n they need it for support but i dont need any. The some means 2-3.

Ladymermaid says:

Let kids be kids.

DeannaDiaz says:

Self esteem is NOT attached to how big your boobs are girls! You are SUPPOSED to be a 32A, your still a kid for crying out loud!

Ruthi says:

No! Teenagers have enough issues with self-esteem without society putting an additional pressure on them. It is much more important that we teach our children about their value and worth as a person, rather than as a sexual being.

Steve_Kaye says:

A smile is more attractive than cleavage. And, best of all, a smile lasts.

Some links regarding the sexualization of young woman

I'm blushing at the support this lens has gotten in just 24 short hours and, when I went looking for additional articles/blogs, etc, I found a webful of the things. Here's a few of my favorites.

So, this debate about the sexualization of young girls is not just for Americans any more. This article is from the British Telegraph and supports my belief that the times, they are a changin'.

A true story about my wardrobe mishap a long time ago

So, as you can probably tell, I've always been very endowed. Some might think I'm lucky, some (including me) are not all that interested in toting around these things. Anyway, here's my story.

A long time ago, I reported to a temporary agency for a short job - just one evening of entering data. There were about 20 women in the room as we were 'trained' on the system. The training was incredibly boring and, since my attention span rivals that of a rock, I was understandably bored.

I was leaning down to fiddle with my shoe, my hooters were under the table when the instructor called on me. I suppose he was trying to embarrass me as I was the only one sighing in boredom.

I sat up quickly to (correctly) answer his question and the underwire from my bra caught onto the bottom of the table. And, there were the girls out of their crate! Yep, right there for all to see, flopping over my bra. Luckily, my embarrassment threshold is a lot higher than my attention span and I just cracked up. Laughed my boobs off!

Abercrombie and Fitch - friend or foe?

I chose not to breed but I do know how I feel about Abercrombie and Fitch's controversial ads featuring young teens in compromising situations. There's quite a fervor in the mall as I see mothers shielding their teen's eyes when they pass in front of the store.

Here's the buzz on the web about Abercrombie and Fitch.

Another wardrobe malfunction....

JC Penney pulled a t-shirt after public outcry

At least we may be getting somewhere. JC Penney pulled this t-shirt from their stores after so many people complained. The slogan on the young girl's shirt was "I'm too pretty to do homework so my brother does it for me." Really? Really? A parent would allow that to be plastered across their young daughter's chest? Are they the same parents who would buy a push up bra for a young girl?

What I want to know is what kind of designer thought this message was appropriate for a young girl's t-shirt? What is wrong with people?

Read the whole article by clinking this link: Texas-based J.C. Penney pulls "too pretty" T-shirt for girls.

JC Penney debate

I'm sure everyone already knows where I stand on the issue of putting little girls in grown up girls clothes. Where do you stand?

Do you think that JC Penney's t-shirt should have been recalled?

Loading

Of course! It's demeaning to girls.

Ladymermaid says:

Yes, it is time for major corporations to start being socially responsible to our youth.

Steve_Kaye says:

The responsibility for products like this belongs to us, the consumers. If no one bought one of these, JC Penney would remove them from their stores.

skiesgreen says:

Yes, another case of idiots in the designing trade

CruiseReady says:

Must have been an aging male chauvinist pig that thought that one up.

KonaGirl says:

There is no way it is O.K. to put out that kind of message to kids. It is not only demeaning, it also says it is OK to cheat in school. I don't believe in censorship except when it comes to young children and the parents should be the censor. The thing I don't get is that parents would buy it or allow their kids to buy it in the first place. They scream for a recall because they can't control what their kids are buying?

No. We're taking this stuff to seriously.

I am so glad that you came out and said it. Let our kids be kids and stop putting pressure on girls to be a woman before they are emotionally ready to be. God they are going to be a woman for about 80 years and only a kid for a little while anyway. Let them enjoy being a kid.
