Alexander Pushkin
His greatest works included the drama, Boris Godunov (1825) and the novel in verse, Eugene Onegin (1825-32). He wrote many wonderful short stories such as "The Queen of Spades" and "The Captain's Daughter".
When he was just 37 years of ago, Pushkin was fatally wounded in a duel, an immense loss for Russian literature.
Alexander Pushkin had a great influence on the work of later Russian literary greats such as Gogol, Turgenev, Goncharov and Tolstoy. A number of his works have inspired Russian music, especially opera (for example, Tschaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov).
Pushkin was also a champion of social reform, which caused him many problems with the authorities during his lifetime.

- I am deeply enthusiastic about Pushkin (I did my dissertation for my Russian Studies degree on his Southern Poems), so I was delighted to see this excellent lens. I also love Prokofiev, and Boris Godunov is my favourite opera, so you made my day. Blessings here.
