Small breasts? Try an ultimate push-up bra!

On my Itty Bitty Bra Guide, I host a poll asking small-busted women about their favorite bra. Many of my flat-chested respondents have endorsed the push-up plunge style with heavy padding as their favorite, so here they are: my top picks for pushup bras to fit small breasts. These will maximize cleavage and enhance the size and shape of your bust. All are available in cup sizes A and B. In some of the featured selections, the A cup size will also fit AA cups. Choices are based on brand reputation, description of fit, and customer reviews -- plus I own several of these myself. My bra size is 32A, so trust me, I know all the tricks: silicone inserts, cleavage boosters, full-size breast enhancer forms... I'm like the fairy godmother of male crossdressers and skinny girls. All are welcome here!

Sexy Padded Enhancer Styles

The gallery of glorious breast enhancement!

OnGossamer Bump it Up Add-a-Cup Bra

Size A also fits AA... aw yeah!

This pushup bra from On Gossamer has graduated "bump" pads that mold to the shape of small breasts. Graduated padding provides dramatic but natural enhancement that looks and feels very similar to real breast tissue.

Unlike padded bras made with foam (tennis balls, anyone?), this one is made to follow the shape of a real woman's curves. It is also very comfortable, perhaps because of the stretchy loops that interlock at the center gore. Want more cleavage? Give the loops a double twist!

On Gossamer Women's Mesh Bump It Up Bra

This bra is available in sizes 32A, 34A, 36A, 32B, 34B, and 36B. I have it in a 32A and the fit is perfect on me. The lift and enhanced cleavage are partly a result of how the bump pads are positioned: like half-moons facing each other, angled at the outer sides of the cups. It doesn't just add size -- it hugs your curves and molds to them! The silhouette is your own shape, only more voluptuous. Thank you, OnGossamer... no doubt I'll eventually have quite a collection of these.

Now, go bra shopping!

Petite Bra Size Tip

The most natural look in padded bras comes from graduated push-up pads. Padding should be thickest at the base of the bra, and then taper off at the tops of the cups.

Best Bets from Maidenform and Wacoal

Sexy or Comfortable? Both, of course.

These pushup bras are comfortable, well-made and natural-looking. Try the Maidenform "Feeling Sexy" gel bra for dramatic cleavage enhancement; this style is similar to a popular bra from Victoria's Secret, but costs much less. For contoured shaping, I highly recommend the iBra from Wacoal. It has a sleek, smooth fit that you don't often find in padded bras.

Before You Get Breast Implants...

Small bra sizes are beautiful too!

Love Your Small Bra Size!Farther down on this page, you'll find a debate with comments from women on both sides of the breast augmentation surgery issue. Some feel that push-up bras can't come close to breast implants as far as improving what they consider to be the "problem" of a small bust. You'll see pretty quickly that I don't agree.... but I also want to highlight what may be a far more important consideration than whether implants improve your appearance or not.

Two of the readers who added their voices to the debate here became ill after having breast enhancement surgery. Both of these women have since had their implants removed, and each is now arguing against having it. It's important to hear what they have to say before you make a decision to put your healthy body through a procedure like this for purely cosmetic purposes.

Push-Up Bras vs. Breast Implants

Are padded bras enough?

For me, I feel like the best path is to accept my small bust as it is. I'm choosing to work on appreciating the unique beauty of my body. A more pragmatic consideration is that I can't afford implants, and I won't have that kind of money anytime soon. I also think it makes sense to avoid any unnecessary risks to my safety if I can get the same breast-enhancing effects from a few great bras.

Are push-up bras as good as a boob job for breast enhancement?

Yes, I feel there is no need for breast implants with all the great new padded bras.

Lean Lena says:

Just found this blog while searching for fashion tips for small busts :-) I'm having breast augmentation surgery in a few weeks to correct a severe tubular breast deformity on my left breast, reducing it to a size (and shape!) similar to my much smaller right breast. I'll end up with an AA cup and I just know I'll be massively proud of my new small implant-less bust! Can't wait to go bra shopping in the teeny-tiny section ;-) Much love! From a tall & small busted Belgian girl xx

no knockers says:

I don't think I would want implants. yes, my tiny boobs sometimes annoy me, but in all honesty most of it is down to what society and the media have me believing I should look like. "Sexy" women in lads mags have huge boobs. But models are generally small-chested, and are chosen for their facial features (and figures, obviously, and yes I know not all models are healthy but that doesn't change the fact that many of them are!) I have never had a boyfriend who has said, "You're so beautiful, but your breasts are just too small...." In fact whenever I have complained about them men always say there's nothing wrong with them, because it's unlikely that guys who find big boobs a must will be in a relationship with me! So, I guess really what I mean is that unless your boobs bother *you* why have implants? And there will be plenty of women who's breast size does bother *them* and each to their own, I don't think people who have implants are silly or in the wrong somehow, but I'm not one of them. I do wish I had a bigger cleavage because IMO clothes hang better when you have a bit of boob (although fashion designers don't always agree!) but I am happy to get that from a bra!
And whoever defines sexy/attractive/beauty by breast size is really a bit of a fool, let's be honest!

christine says:

It's not much of a choice, when the options are a comfortable and safe external enhancement or unnecessary and potentially dangerous surgery.

Pushup bras are fine, but I'd still rather have implants.

Lily says:

I'd rather have breast implants. You take the bra off, and you're back to your small breasts. You also can't wear a push up bra with every piece of clothing. I'm getting my implants asap.

squelia says:

Nope. Wearing push-up bras just means you're disguising yourself forever.

Callmenette says:

I have implants, but I would say that every women should be proud of their bodies and love them selfs, regardless of what every one says. Women are beautiful!

Please help me find a bra that will lift my small (32A) deflated breasts (result of lovingly nursing my 5 babies each for one year), and possibly add volume as well. The few underwire padded bras I have purchased look so unnatural (cone shaped) when I put on my clothes over them. I have always worn sports bras (no underwire), but am willing to try any type of bra, as long as it can give me the lift that I so desperately need, and it's so important to me to have the padding look soft and natural. Thank you so much. Again, I'm willing to try any type of bra that will work for my problem.

I am a 38 A or B bra size. My breasts are very uneven, and I haven't worn bras for years but feel them necessary now as my shape changes. I tried a 38B from Target, underwire with padding, no seam, but I have found the cups seem too close together. I often find myself pushing my breasts in past the wire from the sides. I wonder if there are bras with cups spaced wider apart. I prefer back closures for their adjustability, but I wonder if there are any front closing bras with an adjustable hook up front. That might solve my problem. Any ideas?

Hi Elizabeth. If you're having to push your breasts into the wires in order to make it fit, it's probably the wrong size in that style. For recommendations and a free consultation, please go to http://32aabra.com/contact and send me your measurements. You can find directions for how to measure on my Itty Bitty Bra Guide, or at http://32aabra.com/size-fit.

I'm a 44" due to wt gain, but still barely a B (except at 50, everything's lower than it was 3 kids ago!) My cups definitely do NOT runneth over! I keep finding "demi cups" that are anything but 'demi!'

    any help?

Hi! Try the Flatter Me bra... it comes in sizes 40 - 48 AA, A, and B. It's available at http://ittybittybra.com/ through their "Shop" page. I've seen this bra and can verify that it is well-made and properly sized for your proportions. Hope you love it!

My New Favorite Push-Up Bra!

A lovely boost of romance for the boobs.

Blush Dreamgirl Push Bra Ice Blue

Amazon Price: $36.00 (as of 06/03/2012)Buy Now

This Blush padded pushup is not only effective at lifting the bust and adding a nice curve to your natural shape... it's also really comfortable! And when you are small-busted and thin with a bony ribcage, comfort in this type of bra is a rare thing.

The Dreamgirl does not try to force more cleavage than your body can reasonably create. It lifts and gently shifts the breast tissue under your arms forward, resulting in a slim and shapely silhouette. The A cup will also fit sizes AA and nearly A. If you are between cup sizes, order up for the best fit.
