I've been hooked on digital art since 1995. I love to draw every day. I draw the world around me: my family, my cat, my city, my travels -- everything. See a unique view of California and own a piece of it too.
I take photographs nearly every where I go and I have a huge folder of reference shots to work from. I use Photoshop to draw my illustrations, using the pen tool, custom brushes and a hand selected color palette. What I don't do: run photographs through filters to give the appearance of a drawings.

Here's why I'm making this page
1) Before blogging and books, my first passion is art. I have been drawing in one medium or another since I was eighteen months old. Currently I do all of my drawing on the computer.I've done 3D rendered pieces where I create the models in one program and then use another one to create the final picture by rendering the 3D down to a 2D image. Right now though I'm going back to my roots and concentrating on drawing. For that I'm using Photoshop. The picture at the top of this lens is a portrait I drew of my daughter using Photoshop.
I take reference photographs and later use my favorites as inspiration for my drawings. Nothing from the original photograph is actually used in the final piece; it's all hand drawn.
You can see my digital art work from 2001 through now in the gallery I maintain as part of this blog.
2) I also sell my artwork through Zazzle. I have T-shirts, postage, cards, mugs, a calendar, magnets, mouse pads, postcards and posters for sale.
My drawing style is influenced by Bert Monroy an artist who has made a career out of producing fine art digitally. He uses Illustrator and Photoshop and I've learned a bunch of techniques from reading his books.
My 3D art is influenced by other 3D artists I've met online over the years, like the late Don Tatro, Frogdot, Tony Lynch to name just a few.
If you want more traditional influences, my favorite artists are John Singleton Copley, Andrew Wyeth (who passed away this year), Vilhelm Hammershoi, Charles Addams (see my Gashlycrumb Tinies) and Edward Hopper.
