Putting Drills at Home that Can Save You Time and Double Bogeys

Looking for putting drills at home that can save you time as well as dramatically improve your putting? The quickest and most surefire way to breaking 80 or becoming a scratch golfer lies in improving your short game, most specifically your putting. So grab your putter and try these drills that have helped many golfers shave 5, 10, even 15 strokes off of their game.

Putting Drills at Home #1

Putting into the sleeve

This is one of my all time favorite putting drills at home whenever I can't make it out to the course. All you need is a sleeve of golf balls.

- Place one golf ball in the bottom of the sleeve.
- Lay it down so that the opening of the sleeve is facing you.
- Stand three feet away or farther.
- And just practice putting the balls into the golf ball sleeve.

This will help you develop better coordination since you're dealing with a much smaller target than an actual hole. Once you've filled the sleeve with the remaining 2 golf balls, move it to somewhere else. Putting Drills at Home #2

Head against the wall drill

This is one of the best putting drills at home you can do to improve your head stability during your putting. One big reason as to why you might be pulling or pushing your putts is that your head might be moving during your putting stroke. I don't know if you've watched the putting masters like Tiger or Dave Stockton putt, but I've noticed that their heads remain very still during their entire putting stroke (and every swing as well). This will help to give you more solid ball contact.

To do this drill, find a wall in your home. Next, get into your putting stance and position and move yourself close enough to the wall so that your forehead is touching it. Now do 10 or so putting strokes. Doing this regularly will help you hit more consistent putts and push/pull the ball less.

Putting Drills at Home Drill #3

Cup-putt

If you're struggling with those three-foot putts that can mean the difference between birdie, par, bogey, or even double-bogey, then this is one of the best putting drills at home for you to practice. Grab 4 balls, a medium-sized cup (preferably with a thin rim), and your putter. Find a nice flat spot in your home. Lie the cup down facing you and stand 3 or 4 feet away. Practice trying to putt all 3 or 4 balls into the cup in a row. Something you can focus on during this is not to watch the ball but to "listen" to it roll into the cup. After you've lined up your putt and looked at the cup, keep your head down until the ball has rolled into the cup. This helped me so much with my putting game.

However, for some of the best putting drills and tips that can stop all of your three-putts for good, check out this resource on putting drills at home that can literally help you break 90, 80, or become a scratch golfer.

I aggree with you that the quickest and best way to break 80 or become a scratch golfer lies in improving your short game, most specifically your putting. I can not remember how many times I have told those that I play golf with that they need to work on improving their chipping and putting to reduce their 18 hole score.
