Puzzle Pirates is an online game in which you play a pirate, pillaging the seas, drinking and taking part in all sorts of acts of pirateyness, all built into cleverly themed puzzles.

Within this Lens I shall be giving general information on the game, on its different puzzles, its community and other information.

Puzzles and Piratey fun

Puzzle Pirates has 10 puzzles for piratey acts which are:

Swordfighting
Bilging
Sailing
Rigging
Navigating
Battle Navigating
Gunning
Carpentry
Rumbling
and Treasure Haul

Each one has its own unique puzzle.
There are also five puzzles for creation of goods, a five carousing games including, hearts, poker, and spades.

Besides the fun puzzles, Puzzle Pirates has a large social aspect involved with Crews and Flags.

Poker!

The Ultimate money waster

You know how your parents (or teacher, or someone) told you that gambling was bad because even if you win, you lose a lot more often. For 80% of the population that is definately true. I couldn't count the number of people I know who've gone broke from poker.

That somehow doesn't manage to make it less fun, or enticing.

And on the other side of that, the richest pirates in viridian tend to be poker players. (And thats about it)

Poker on Puzzle Pirates is your basic Texas Hold 'em rules.

Crews and Flags

If you've been playing online games for awhile, you'll notice that there are groups of players in almost everything. Whether they go by the name of "clans" or "guilds" in the end its just a group who play games together.

On Puzzle Pirates, there is a deeply engrained system for this known as the Crew system. Basically, its just a group of players in a hierarchy of ranks that give them different abilities.
Cabin People are your basic swab-the-deck entry level types.
Pirates have access to the Gunning Puzzle
Officers can lead pillages in ships
Fleet Officers have access to the holds of all the ships.
Senior Officers can edit the crew info and in oligarchic crews vote on all alliances, promotions, etc.
Captains have the ability to rename ships and create Flags.

Which brings us to the next subject!
Flags are groups of crew which have joined together. They have the ability to declare war on other flags, which means if the crews within those flags start fighting eachother, ships can sink!
Also, if they build up enough fame and money, Flags have the ability to blockade islands in an attempt to take them over.

Sub vs Dub

Puzzle Pirates has two kinds of oceans. (for those of you who play other online games, oceans are like shards, servers... etc.)
The two types are Subscription and Doubloon. The subscription oceans are pretty straight forward: You buy a subscription. Monthly fee. Much like other online games.

The doubloon oceans, on the other hand, are free to play on. Many purchasing actions, however, require use of doubloons, which must be purchased using real money. By someone at least.
You can do everything someone who buys dubs can if you don't. You just need to buy doubloons off of other people.

Puzzle Pirates Boxed

Puzzle Pirates is a free, downloadable game to play on the dubloon oceans. You only pay money if you want to buy dubloons with cash instead of from other players.
However, they do have a box version which you can buy for 8 dollars that gives you a key redeemable for a backsword; a powerful sword that never ages.

Great lens! I'm a fan of the game and you've done a nice job of explaining it. Though I don't play that often anymore, I still like to visit the Viridian ocean every once in a while. This is my Puzzle Pirate
