Here's my favorite link:
Qassia has now already 10'000 members and is growing fast
Blog entry at Qassia:
"Today we passed an unexpected milestone. We noticed earlier today that the number of users has gone past 10,000 members.
That may be smaller than the user base of Facebook or MySpace, but have you ever tried inviting 1,000 people over to a party? 10,000 users is a LOT of people.
They say that once you have ten thousand, ten million are easy. Our recent battles against infrastructural limitations makes this a tad hard to believe, but it is doubtlessly true that Qassia has acquired the critical mass of users needed to form a rock solid community.
Qassia is now an indelible part of the webscape. We've here to stay baby!

... looks as if this is going to be an important site in anybody's backlinking strategy!
A simple and effective concept
Depending on the quality of the submitted material the user gets a certain credit in QDollars. This adds value to his prifile and the websites that he wants to link back to.
The user can also review the articles and snippets privided by others and gain QDollars that way. There are some checks and balances built in to avoid that one individual can punch on others.
Backlinks from an authority site
Where it gets really interesting is the possiblity to get backlinks to the URLs of your choice. Qassia has the potentiaö to become an authority site, and these links can become very valauble, just as are the links that go out from your Squidoo pages.
So you can use these links to push Squidoo or Hub pages, or your other sites!
.
How I got started
An easy stpe by step guide how to get a high value for your own URL's
1. Submit snippets and articles (they call this 'intel') and get Q$'s
2. Rate intel and get Q$'s
3. Refer others and get Q$'s
The most influence you have with the 1st option, submitting your own infos. You are not restricted to topics related to your URL, you can submit anything you know about. That way you build 'Qassia capital' the fastest way. This has the advantage, that you actually also add a link to the URL of your choice with the Linktext that you choose for this URL.
Rating others is good too, it adds to your value, but much slower, and refering others if fine, if you know a lot of people, but it's their choice and whether they'll join or not... you never know.
I'm concentrating on submitting intel and made this lens to alert other Squidoo partners. If you join and use the link above I'll get credit, that's fine and will add some value to my account. Thanks!
But don't count on too many people jumping on that route. In the first about 24 hours I've made 200 Q$ in referals and nearly 2'000 Q$ from submitting and rating...

Backlinks - The Oxygen of your Website
Backlinks (or back-links UK) are incoming links to a website or web page. Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO).
The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.
In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
SEO - Search Engine Optimization
With Qassia you add a small part in the puzzle of optimizing the performance of your website!
.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
The acronym "SEO" can refer to "search engine optimizers," a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term "search engine friendly" may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure.
Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms, keyword stuffing and article spinning that degrade both the relevance of search results and the user-experience of search engines. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques in order to remove them from their indices.
Linking
Deep linking, on the World Wide Web, is making a hyperlink that points to a specific page or image on another website, instead of that website's main or home page. Such links are called deep links.
