Qigong Healing Methods
To improve your health and resistance to disease, there are two ways of using qigong healing. One way is let other people do it for you, through the use of Medical Qigong doctors. Practitioners of medical qigong have the ability to effect healing by clearing energy blockages, balancing the body's energy grid and helping restore energy to weak organ systems, effecting the same or better results as would acupunture.
The other way to engage in this healing method is to take up the practice of qigong yourself. There are many meditative movements and there are quiescent, or meditation techniques. Both of these methods allow you to become deeply familiar with your body and its energy. Medical Qigong doctors usually prescribe specific qigong practices for their patients, depending on their condition. These practices help reinforce their treatments and help patients learn how to facilitate self-healing. Patients who can be treated by the doctor and do the exercises speed up their recovery from health disorders. It is the purpose of this article to give a general description of both categories of qigong.

Medical Qigong Healing Methods
There are several types of doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Perhaps most people are aware of acupuncturists and Chinese herbal therapies. Besides these traditions, there are also Medical Qigong doctors who can use similar diagnostic methods, such as checking the pulses and tongue symptoms and corresponding these findings in accordance with five-element theory. In addition to these diagnostic methods, Medical Qigong doctors also are able to sense and perform an examination intuitively because of their ability to read energy. These skills can be developed over time in some people during the course of training with experience Medical Qigong doctors. In the end, diagnosis is overall a complex phenomenon that employs all available information that is available to the doctor.Because of the training of the Medical Qigong doctor, such as learning grounding and energy projection, he or she is able to sense and manipulate a patient's energy field to facilitate healing. There is an energy point in the center of the palm that is called the lao gong that can be used to both sense and move energy when it is placed a fist's distance or more away from the body. In some cases, a doctor may also use the first two fingers to delve deeply into the energy field. Moving the hand or fingers in a counterclockwise position helps drain excessive energy in a spot that has a blockage or is inflammed. Moving in a clockwise position can tonify, or add, energy to an area that is deficient in energy. The practitioner is usually standing and grounded, and he or she can either pull energy from the ground or can shunt excess energy to the ground. The hand that is not used can also serve as a ground.

Qigong Healing Exercises
There are also qigong exercises that improve your health in a non-specific manner, such as improving the immune system, increasing the flow of the circulatory systems, improving of flexibility and improvement of overall energy levels. Such exercises include standing qigong meditation, breathing meditation exercises, and movements such as the Eight Brocades. A combination of these exercises can improve health better than just doing a single set of exercises. What is most important for health improvement is daily practice. Practice should start in the early morning before you have breakfast because that can set the pace for your day so you will be more relaxed and have more energy. In the evening, it is good to practice meditative forms in the evening to help you have a restful sleep.

Postures of standing qigong are demonstrated by yiquan masters from China. The subtitles explain each of the postural suggestions and other suggestions on how to do this simple, but powerful method of increasing your energy and resistance to disease. An excerpt under the YouTube video comes from The Zen monastic Experience by Robert E. Buswell (1992), where a Zen Master Kusan relates his initiating a non-sleeping meditation practice using standing meditation and his rigorous practice helped increase his energy and calm his spirit.

Moving Qigong Form - Dragon Tiger
A student of Bruce Frantzis demonstrates the Dragon Tiger Medical Qigong form in this video. This seven-movement form is a Buddhist Qigong method because it coordinates the breath with the movements. You can hear the practitioner's breathing in the video. This is called a medical qigong because it follows the major energy channels of the body known as the extraordinary meridians. By following these meridians in the hand movements, the energy channels can be cleared and reinvigorated.
