Qmail Email server

Qmail is a modern and secure email server written by Dan Bernstein. Qmail is meant to be a replacement for sendmail, with a secure design, simpler configuration and built in support for virtual domains

About Qmail

Qmail is mostly known as the most secure email server.
The author of qmail even has a security guaranty. A prize of $500 was offered in 1997 to anyone that would find a security hole in qmail but until today no one has claimed the prize.

A problem with qmail is that it lacks a lot of features that are present in other email servers at the moment.
A lot of those absent features are available as patches from third parties but applying the patches may be too much hassle.

Qmail was not released as open source so that meant no one could distribute qmail with the necessary third party patches without the consent of the author. An approved third party distribution is netqmail, which contains patches and and improved installation.

Fortunately qmail's source code was recently put into public domain so anyone can redistribute modified versions.
