Quality Cooking Equipment: Tips on Cooking Equipment & Food Preparation

Want to be a better chef? Use better equipment! The Higher Quality your cooking equipment is, the better off you'll be.

It really does make a difference; even the oven you use makes a difference.

Oftentimes, ladies may not give much thought to this. I mean, you move into a new residence or home, and the oven is just there. Give it some thought !

The kind of oven you use matters. It affects the outcome.

Same with cookware. Take frying pans - now, what is the most common aluminum cookware used today? The answer is teflon. It comprised 90% of all Aluminum cookware sold in the year 2006.

Yet you must take care with your teflon cookware. It is a known fact that allowing the temperature to get too high is dangerous ! The coating will emit toxic chemicals into the air, so please be forewarned .

Visit the Goodhousekeeping.com article for more information on Teflon frypans & cookware:

So in case you did not realize it, the equipment you employ can and DOES affect the outcome. So, if you want to impress your dinner guests (and your family), you will want to invest in some quality cooking equipment. Yes there will be an initial cost, but just think of how long the cookware lasts!

And think of the hundreds of wonderful meals you will provide to your family.

Featured in this lens you will find: information on proper cooking equipment, recipes, tips, healthful cooking ideas, outdoor cooking, vegetarian cooking, and on occasion, gourmet cooking ideas.

We stumbled upon Le Creuset looking for a safe, non-stick surface to cook eggs for our kids. We found an outlet store nearby and were hooked. We have two of these pots and use them for rice, pasta sauce, polenta, oatmeal...used just about every meal. Best. Rice. Ever.

"I got this thing specifically to do rice, and it has been incredible. You can always find a 'deal' on something else but the Le Creuset line is incredible."

Introducing Paula Deen...

Southern Based Home Cooking

Paula's home cooking is a television program that offers recipes and good old fashioned American cooking for its viewers. Paula's home cooking offers recipes on old favorites like pot roast, fried okra, and pecan pie. But, Paula's home cooking extends beyond her television shows and into her own personal lifestyle.

Paula's home cooking first began with a small at home business, where she cooked food, bagged it up, and her sons delivered. Her most popular food items were sandwiches and other meals. She became known as the Bag Lady. Eventually she opened up her own restaurant The Lady and Sons. At her restaurant the most popular food item is the buffet line. Paula's home cooking on this line includes, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, cheesy meatloaf, greens, beans, creamed corn, and many other food items.

Paula's home cooking went in print form with the creation of her first two cookbooks, The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cooking and The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cooking 2. In the cookbooks, she includes traditional southern recipes like Gooey Butter cake and Chess cake.

Durable and Long Lasting

This pan cleans up nicely! I so enjoy that feature. Also, it does look good in the kitchen. Its aluminum construction heats quickly and evenly. The rubberized handle provides a cool touch when on the stove, and it's dual riveted to the saucepan for added durability. It's also outfitted with a copper-plated ring for convenient hanging.

Quality Cooking Equipment

Quality Cooking Equipment Can Influence Your Meal's Outcome - Really!

Cooking Lovers - I use this piece in my own kitchen. My preferences run toward the high end on cookware these days. I learned this from my father.

in the long run, it's better to go with the quality cooking equipment. It truly is. It lasts longer, has better performance and features, and is generally more appealing to the eye (ambience, you might say). Additionally, when it comes to clean up at the end of your day, you want something that is effortless.

Cooking Equipment that I use with my special Potato Soup recipe..

What Makes this Potato Soup so-o delicious -

My dad is from Kentucky. He loves potato soup. Boy, does he ever. One time he asked me to look up potato soup recipes on the Net. I reluctantly agreed (you know how it is, when a parent asks you to do something - Ha). To make a long story short, I proceeded to scan the internet for different sorts of potato soup - those with cream and without & those with bits of ham or bacon in the recipe... I boiled it all down (no pun intended) and came up with 3 interesting soups.

One had ham in it , because my father loves ham (have you heard of the famous Kentucky hams?), and another had vegetables (I passed on this), and last there was creamy potato soup.

I shall feature the last one via video (See Right Below this module) - the creamy version (don't tell my dad!).

The equipment that I used:
a large copper-bottomed stock pot (12 quart)
a potato peeler
a garlic press
a flour sifter
a large frypan
a cheese shredder
a wooden spoon
measuring cups
measuring spoons
stainless steel bowl
a wire whisk
a large Komachi by Kai 6-1/2-Inch Stainless-Steel
Santoku Knife with Scalloped Edge for dicing the potatoes

Final Tip: be sure to have a good quality cracked pepper on hand. This really complements the soup..

The Advantages of Quality Cast Iron Cooking Equipment..

Cook As Your Grandmother did

Do you have a preference for castiron cooking equipment? Do you prefer your cooking gear durable and built to last? In order to have both resilience and functionality, the toughest castiron cooking equipment is advised. You will be surprised at the quality of some of the equipment available these days. Take for instance, Cast Iron double burner propane stoves. These things make coffee, heat water, or fry up your bacon, eggs, steaks, you name it! And they can be a cost-effective way of doing your outdoor stove top cooking! What you would need for this is your Liquid Propane tank(s) or cylinder(s) and your regulator hose kit - and then you will be in business!

Next, the Rachael Ray 7x9" Oval Fajita Pan is a frequent favorite among outdoor enthusiasts. It is made to last and can really take a beating (and then some). Great for campouts.

Cooking Prime Rib

How to Select and Prepare Prime Rib

Cooking prime rib is similar to cooking other cuts of beef, but with much better flavor than regular roast. Individuals want to begin by making sure that the prime rib is at room temperature before placing it in the oven. You should allow two hours. Skip this step and it will take longer to cook. Then you will want to trim excess fat off the prime rib; however, leave a thin layer of fat in order for it to baste --about 1/2 inch. Next, you will want to pat the rib roast dry.

Flavors

There are a variety of ways to inject flavor into your prime rib. One method is to cut slits into the meat -- about 1/2 inch deep -- then rub your chosen spices into the meat. Then sprinkle some coarse black pepper, sea salt, and garlic powder over the beef.

Marinades are another choice. Some of my favorite ingredients are: red wine, sesame oil (use sparingly -- a few drops only), balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, ginger ale, fresh garlic, and red onions. Mix and match - use some or all of these ingredients as you see fit. You will want to marinade for a period of four hours, up to three days. When you remove the beef, once again pat it dry.

Using Good Quality Cooking Equipment Makes Your Job Easier

Test for Doneness with a Meat Thermometer...

Sear the prime rib at 450 degrees fahrenheit for fifteen minutes; then reduce the heat to 325 degrees, to fully cook the meat. Then, every half hour you should baste the rib (fat side down). About thirty minutes prior to the end of the cooking time, insert an instant read digital thermometer in order to check the internal temperature of the meat. Be sure to stick the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat, not into the fat or near the bone. Once an internal temperature of 120 degrees fahrenheit has been reached, remove the prime rib from the oven and wrap it in aluminum foil. Allow it to set for about 20 - 30 minutes. It will continue to cook, reaching an internal temperature of 125 degrees to 130 degrees. The prime rib is now ready to be served and eaten. Bon appetit!

Carve the Meat Already!

Dimpled Knife with Molded Handle & Easy Grip for Carving..

To carve this magnificent piece of meat, you will want to utilize a long, thin sharp knife. A ten inch chefs carving knife, or perhaps an electric carving knife, if you prefer. Use the knife to cut off the feather bones. These bones are the large end bones. Cut off big steak-size pieces with the desired thickness.

Here is the knife I personally use:

One Final Note : be sure and go to a high quality butcher. Not only is high quality cooking equipment imperative here - a high quality butcher can be like your best friend when it comes to pleasing your dinner guests. Ask for USDA prime.

Ever WONDER Where Prime Rib comes from?

The prime rib is considered one of the best cuts of beef. Most of the prime cuts originate from the end of the prime rib, which is the lower part of the rib cage. Prime rib refers to the finest beef, with even marbling and a creamy layer of fat. It must be USDA Prime, not USDA Choice. It is normally carried solely by the finest butchers.

If you do a lot of chopping or carving in your family, it is important that you lay claim to a high-caliber knife. One that is balanced, reliable, and comfortable
(not to mention durable - which this knife is!)

The majority of Global knives are ground to a straight point rather than the western style of beveling the edge. To balance their knives Global uses a hollow handle that is filled with just the right amount of sand to create the correct balance. The handle has its own unique darkened dimples for a non-slip grip. Because the knives are very light weight, they reduce hand fatigue. Global knives have a smooth contour and seamless, all stainless construction that eliminates food and dirt traps
