Hello and Welcome !

I'm Chris Butler and this is a page devoted to the Quantum Tarot, a Tarot deck for the 21st Century due to be published by Kunati Inc in September 2008.


The Quantum Tarot is the brainchild of Kay Stopforth and part of Kunati's exciting package will be the 200 page companion book authored by Kay. Where do I fit in ? Well, under Kay's supervision I illustrated the cards themselves.


So what is the Quantum Tarot and what makes it so different from the thousands of wonderful decks already available on the market ? Quantum Tarot is a fusion of traditional tarot and its ancient archetypes with the theories of modern astrophysics, the myths and legends behind planets and constellations and above all, the breathtaking photographs taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.


Ask Kay about this deck and she'll remind you that mankind has always looked to the stars for answers. For as long as recorded history allows us to understand, the human race has followed the paths and patterns of the stars in an attempt to make sense of its own existence. Millennia later, we're really haven't changed.


What has changed however is our understanding of the Stars themselves and the Universe they inhabit. We are beginning to comprehend the forces that hold the Universe together and the ways in which stars come into being and die.

About Chris_Butler

Chris Butler discovered the Tarot at the age of thirteen whilst watching a James Bond movie. He was immediately gripped by the strange figures on the heraldically coloured cards and that fascination has remained with him for over twenty five years.

Chris secured his first job as an illustrator aged seventeen. He entered some of his work in a contest at a TV convention and before he knew it, he was in the conference centre bar discussing terms with a sci-fi magazine editor. He was subsequently commissioned by Space Voyager magazine to illustrate a series of cult celebrity interviews.

From 2002 he has worked full time as an artist and illustrator. He has worked with decorative artist Tony Raymond, assisting on design schemes, murals and trompe l'oeil for several large houses and stately homes in the UK and Ireland. Tony was instrumental in encouraging Chris to devote himself to a full time art career and remains a strong influence.

From 2004 he has specialised in digital imagery, indulging his love of the Tarot and making it his primary influence. To date, he has illustrated five decks. He has also illustrated two oracle decks, one of them in collaboration with Kay Stopforth, his creative partner for the Quantum Tarot.

Along the way, Chris has also worked as a catering manager and a railway station manager. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Theology from Heythrop College, University of London and now lives in his ancestral home of Liverpool, England.
