September 8, 2009 - Nancy Hellams Queen of Squidoo Day - in Pendleton SC

On September 8, 2009 the town of Pendleton honored Nancy Hellams aka Ohme with a proclamation -- the date was set aside to honor Nancy's promotion of the town of Pendleton via her Squidoo lenses!

This was a huge surprise to Nancy and of course, she was both thrilled and honored. Ohme has created over 30 lenses that promote our hometown of Pendleton, South Carolina. Her favorite cause is Pendleton's Veterans Park and she is chair of the Friends of the Park organization that uses Squidoo as their main website. She also keeps an updated lens on Pendleton Happenings. Pendleton Happenings serves as a bulletin board for town events and news. Pendleton may be small but it is a very active community! You can read about these special events such as Fall Harvest Festival, Spring Jubilee, Freedom Fest and Farmers Market.

Congratulations, Ohme! And Congratulations, Pendleton -- You might just be the most talked about town in all of Squidoo!

Hats off to Ohme, Queen of Squidoo in Pendleton, SC

We salute you, Ohme!

Personal note -- For years, the Tate sisters have danced the Molly Brown song "I ain't down yet" and argued good naturedly about who gets to be the queen. Nancy, I think you won the prize! So Betty and I agree, you get to be the queen -- from now till the next time we dance to that tune -- which will most likely be Family Reunion April 2010 in Pendleton! Enjoy your reign!

Thank you to All of you bloggers who wrote about this celebration!

We appreciate you!

We are so grateful to all of you for blogging about this lens. Nancy and I have discussed your super response and we both agree that the thrill for all of us is seeing a community embrace the Squidoo community and the Squidoo community embrace a small town in South Carolina. This lens is all about community, volunteerism, and the connection between our on-line life and our off-line life! Thank you all for celebrating with us.

SquidU Review Blog Archive The Queen of Squidoo
In 2003, Pendleton, South Carolina had fewer than 3,000 people. Some high schools are larger! But one lensmaster is proving that your hometown doesn't have to be big in order for you to have a big impact on it.

OhMe joined Squidoo in July 2008 and took no snail's trail towards becoming a prolific lensmaster. Within a year she had achieved Giant Squid Status and become a sweetheart regular at the SquidU forum. One passion of hers is building lenses about her hometown, Pendleton. My momma always said, if you're going to do something, do it well, and OhMe is the best.

Thank you for celebrating with Nancy (and me too!)

Thank you! I have been completely overwhelmed by this whole event - the proclamation, the blogs, the comments, and all of the congratulations. I realize that this great honor that was bestowed on me is much larger than I am. It is a tribute to two great communities who only have one thing in common and that is that both are filled with wonderful people.
