Quick Natural Weight Loss Methods

If you're looking for quick, natural weight loss methods, you've come to the right place. This lens takes a look at some of the ways in which you can speed up your weight loss, but without risking your health with nasty chemical pills, liposuction and other unnatural methods.

How Fast Should You Lose Weight?

First of all, it's important to be aware that people who lose weight quickly often gain it back again quickly too - fast weight loss is not usually permanent. In addition, losing weight too quickly can be bad for your health, especially if it's part of a 'yoyo' cycle of rapid weight loss and regain. So it is suggested that if you want to stay healthy and keep the weight off, you lose no more than two pounds a week.

However, the good news is that if you're overweight, you might naturally lose weight more quickly in the initial stages of a new diet or eating plan, and so long as you don't try to keep losing at that rapid rate, and later settle into a more slow and steady loss rate, you have a good chance of keeping it off permanently. The key is to adopt a way of eating moderately and healthily that you can live with long term.

So let's take a look at some quick natural weight loss methods that you can use to jump start your slimming efforts.

Eat Enough

This may sound counter-intuitive, but in order to keep the weight coming off, you must eat enough. If you don't, your body will go into starvation mode, and your metabolism will slow down, slowing the fat burning process. So whether you eat three meals a day, or smaller meals more often, don't go hungry.

Eat High Density / Low Calorie Foods

Filling up with fruit and vegetables is a good way to boost your weight loss efforts. These foods are rich in fibre, and help you to feel full quickly, but they are also relatively low in calories. In addition, they take a lot of chewing, making it less likely that you'll overeat, as you'll have plenty of time to recognise that you're full.

Eat High Protein Foods

Eating more protein (and fewer carbohydrates) may help to speed up your metabolic rate and suppress hunger (one of the reasons why low carb diets can lead to rapid weight loss). Although a high protein / low carb diet is not a good idea for most people when eaten over the long term, eating this way for a few days can help to boost your weight loss efforts (although some of the initial loss will be water).

Drink Lots of Water

If you suffer from fluid retention at all, you may find that cutting down on salt and boosting your water intake to at least two litres a day helps to flush out the excess water in your body (the body retains water when you aren't taking in enough). This will reduce bloating and can help you to feel thinner within a day or two.

Cheat

If you are eating a low calorie diet, every now and then you should allow yourself a high fat, high calorie treat. Some studies have shown that increasing calorie intake after an extended period of low cal eating can boost the metabolic rate and speed up the fat burning process. Just don't overdo it!

Exercise

If you don't already exercise regularly - start. Just 20 minutes a day will help to boost your metabolic rate, and as a new exerciser, you can see results relatively quickly. For longer term results, make sure you incorporate resistance training into your routine - muscle cells burn more calories at rest than do fat cells.

Detox

Detox diets take various forms but generally involve cutting back on processed foods and drinks and other unhealthy substances, and just eating a relatively austere diet of natural fruits, vegetables and sometimes other foods (e.g. plain brown rice). Some people like to cut out food altogether and just take in water or freshly prepared juices for a few days (the Master Cleanse is another variation on this).

A detox plan can really give your energy levels a boost (although you should be able to rest during the detox if necessary, as you may feel tired or slightly unwell), and will usually help you to drop a few pounds, although the weight loss is unlikely to be permanent unless you change your eating habits afterwards.

Eat Breakfast

As a group, people who eat breakfast have been shown to be thinner than those who don't.

Cut Out Refined Carbohydrates

Sugar and white flour are among the worst foods you can eat. They are nutritionally void of almost anything your body needs, and essentially just provide empty calories. In addition, they tend to lead to blood sugar spikes, which in turn result in you craving more shortly after eating. Opt for natural sweeteners such as stevia, and only eat carb foods made with wholegrains (for best results cut out all products made with flour, although that may be difficult for many people).

Drink Green tea

Green Tea (easily available from health stores and many supermarkets) may help to boost your metabolism and aid in weight loss. It also contains antioxidants that help to maintain health. However, it does contain caffeine, so don't overdo it.

Eat Spicy Foods

Spicy foods may help to boost the metabolism too, so if you like a bit of extra flavour, spice up your meals!

Adopt An Eating Plan For Quick Natural Weight Loss Now - And Keep It Off

All of the tips above can help you to lose those first few pounds more quickly, but if you just go straight back to the eating habits that caused you to gain weight in the first place, you'll just be miserable, and not doing your body any favours either. Adopting a healthy way of eating can help you to lose weight quickly, and - most importantly - to keep it off. Strip That Fat is the only eating plan I recommend - I use it myself, and you can read my detailed Strip That Fat review here.

But in brief, this is a way of eating that puts health first - you basically eat lots of small meals of delicious healthy foods, backed up with some exercise. It's a very simple and low maintenance way of eating - there's no calorie counting, complex meals, special foods and pills, membership fees or anything like that. The emphasis is on building new healthy habits that last a lifetime, rather than just 'going on a diet' for a few weeks then giving up. This is the last weight loss book I'll ever buy, and the last one that anyone need buy if they stick with the plan (and it's very easy to stick to). It also includes a Diet Generator to make meal planning super-simple, which even gives you shopping list to print out.

I won't spend ages writing about it here - you can see my full review or visit the site for more details, but Strip That Fat is a great method for achieving healthy quick natural weight loss - that actually lasts!
